Plein Air Painting - Pine Tree Above the Shotover River, Queenstown, New Zealand
I spent the afternoon painting outdoors and I painted this view above the Shotover River near Queenstown. It’s early spring here in New Zealand so the trees are starting to grow new leaves.
Painting outdoors is known as painting en plein air, a French phrase meaning to paint outside

It is near spring here, too, in Melbourne, though today it sure felt as if it was trying to go back into winter...
Simply wonderful. I love the plein air landscapes of the 19th century artist, European and American, and this has such a feel of that.
That almost looks like a photograph! Great painting!
