A new comic book in my collection: Caravaggio by Milo Manara

in #art5 years ago

Finally I have a copy of the beautiful Caravaggio, a graphic novel illustrated by one of the most famous italian comic artists: Milo Manara!

This is the first book of the series he illustrated about the life of Michelangelo Caravaggio,  a great italian painter of the past and the subtitle of this one is "La tavolozza e la spada" (The palette and the sword).

Michelangelo Merisi, best known as Caravaggio, was born in the 1571 and his paintings are a perfect mix between a realistic study of the body and strong emotion too. He used to paint highlight and shadow in a impressive and dramatic way, working on the chiaroscuro as his own style.

His life was full of shadows like is painting and the documents tell us he was a man who lived his live in a very strong way. He was restless, sometimes violent and sometimes passionate, his life was full of  bad events and wonderful paintings. For sure, an interesting life and something interesting to represent in a graphic novel!

Just to show you how Milo Manara worked on this book, look at these:

So many details in these pages! I love so much the works of Milo Manara and I'm happy to have this book in my collection. I hope to have soon also the other  graphic novel about Caravaggio published just a couple of months ago, but now I can enjoy this one ^_^

See ya soon
