Treasure in Florence (Italy): The Buontalenti Grotto ^_^

in #art6 years ago

This morning me and my hubby @paolobeneforti went to Florence for a couple of hour because he has to give some documents to the office of the Ministry of cultural and art heritage. You have to know that office (that it's open just 3 hours at week ^_^) is a very small office inside one of the most wonderful area in Florence: the Boboli's garden!

So, when my hubby gave the documents to the employ of the office, we enjoyed  to visit a part of that garden!

Have you ever been to Florence? If not, you have to say the greatest city in the middle of Italy. You can see art behind every corners and you can breath a lot  of history! There are some places where there are a lot of tourist and so when we have to go there (from my city to Florence it's just about 1 hour by train) we prefer to walk along the secondary streets, so we can enjoy the beauty of the city in quiet and relax ^_^

I took many photos, but now I want to introduce you in the beautiful place: the Buontalenti Grotto (in Italian is Grotta del Buontalenti)!

During the '500, in Italy, the rich families love to built a little cave in their garden and so It's almost common to see some of this wonderful small buildings in the ancient gardens. This building was started by Giorgio Vasari, but the most part of the structure was created by Bernardo Buontalenti between the 1583 and the 1593. The owner of the building was Francesco de' Medici.

The Buontalenti's Grotto is a wonderful work made mixing excellent example of architecture, painting and sculpture. You have to know that, until the 1924, the 4 Prigioni sculpted by Michelangelo was there. Now you can see that beautiful original sculptures in the gallery of the Academy in Florence, but in the Buontalenti's grotto there are the copies of them.

Inside the building there are 3 rooms and to be there is really a jump in the past!

In the previous pics you can see the front of the building, in the following you can see inside the rooms!

In the pic there is also my hubby, so you can understand better the size of the first room ^_^

I hope you like it ^_^

See ya soon

Beautiful!!! In America we're cheap... we just bury a bathtub and stick a statue of the Blessed Mother inside!

It's just because you're younger than us! :D You have to know that in Florence there's not underground metro because under the city there are many ancient things (totally untouchable!). About the statues of the Blessed Mother, this is the one I have in the garden (Paol made some of them in the past for other people who wanted a statue like this for their garden :D).

It just isn't a garden without a statue of Mother Mary!
