Celebrity Sketch #1 - Ed Sheeran.
The last couple of months have been a bit of a relative struggle for me personally though, which has left me with little time or energy for blogging. But the time has come for me to get back in the steemit saddle and begin finishing some of the things that I've started, as well as realising some of my own personal ambitions for the platform. So you can expect to see me posting and engaging much more regularly from now on.
To get me going again, I've decided to post a few drawings, just as I did when I first joined the platform. As I mentioned in a post some months ago, I'd really like to be able to earn a living from drawing for a lot of reasons, the main one being that it would allow me the opportunity to work from home and spend more time with my young son. I understand that earning a living as an artist can be really difficult and you only have to look around at the quality of work being posted by so many members of our community to understand why.
The talent on display here is phenomenal and can even be a little bit intimidating at times. :)
But I have no intention of letting that put me off and hopefully at some point in the near future I'll be offering my services to anyone who might be interested, whether in the real world or here on steemit. I have no problem with it being difficult either because I'm not looking to get rich from drawing a few pictures. I'd be happy if it was enough to just 'get me by', as I try to structure my life in such a way that I 'need' as little money as possible anyway.
The need for money is something that we all endure though and like so many of us here, I'm hoping that my investment in steemit will one day pay off so I want to do all I can to ensure that I'm in a good position if and when that time comes. So if I can earn enough to get by for now and keep powering up my steemit account, I'd be happy with that. :)
My good friend @apolymask has offered me the opportunity to sell my work in 'The Marketplace' on his Information Finding Channel on Discord, which I really appreciate. It'll take me a little while to feel comfortable though and I am a little bit out of practice, so to get back to the plan that I outlined some time ago, I'll be doing some regular posting of my drawings to get me back in the swing of things. :)
Today I've done a portrait sketch of one of my favourite singer/songwriters at the moment, Ed Sheeran. He's been playing in my home city of Glasgow this weekend and everyone here seems to be going crazy for him so since I couldn't go and see him myself, I thought I'd make him the subject of my first 'Celebrity Sketch'.

It really is an awesome song and if you're not aware of him yet I'm sure you'll be a big fan by the time the song's finished. :)

This is fucking amazing. I don't understand how you can get better even after a taking a break. If I stop for even a couple months I have to essentially learn the whole thing over again.
Cheers bro. I know, its been a long time. I wasn't actually expecting it to turn out as well as it did because of that but I was pleasantly surprised. Just hope the next one I do turns out as good.

Ooh, cool drawing! I know what you mean about feeling intimidated by all the great artists on here! I have begun drawing a little bit since I've been on here. Very rusty. But there's some good comps on here if I can ever muster up the energy to draw something, scan it and learn how to colour it on Inkscape or Krita :)
Thanks a lot Sue. I really appreciate you stopping by and your lovely comments. There really are some great contests on steemit for experienced and novice artists alike. I used to run my own little contest last year called 'Learn To Draw With Friends'. There are lots of artists who upload process posts with their work for others to learn from and that was a big part of my contest so if you're ever looking for any tips feel free to search for the LTDWF contest. (I also had another contest called the Daily Sketch :)) We had lots of great artists taking part as well as lots who were relatively new to drawing so there are loads of process posts for beginner, intermediate and advanced skill levels to learn from. I hope you can find the patience to stick with it. It's something anyone can learn and improve if they are willing to spend the time practicing. I look forward to seeing a few drawings from you in my feed from now on. :)

The first I heard of Ed Sheeran was when he did 2 concerts here a couple of weeks ago. I think I'll have to get out more!
:) You don't have to get out more....there's always Youtube (yes, I said Youtube)....but getting out more would probably be a good idea as well. :)

Hey @charisma777. It's nice to finally neet you my friend. You've been doing an awesome job assisting @apolymask with tge IFC and I have a few other friends who speak very highly of you and your efforts on the platform so I just want to take the opportunity to thank you for all of your hard work. :)
I haven't really given much thought to what I would charge atm. Just trying to get back into the swing of drswing again first since its been so long. I'll have a think about it and ask a few friends what they think a fair price would be. Would you be interested in having one done? :)

Sorry for the late reply @charisma777, I had a few errands to run but I'd be happy to do a sketch of Tom Petty for you. I've heard the name of course but don't really know much about him. He looks like an interesting character and someone I'd enjoy drawing so I'll have a go in the next few days and dedicate it to you when I post it on steemit. :) How's that? :)

Yeah, I've heard Free Falling. I'm a bit of a shower superstar and that's one of my favourites for singing when I'm in there. :) Didn't realise it was Tom Petty though but that's no surprise really as I don't pay as much attention to some things as I should, popular culture being one of them. :(

I'm sorry it took so long but finally found time to get your sketch of Tom Petty done. It was really difficult to find a good quality image since I'm guessing the video was made a while ago and the sunglasses were definitely a lot harder than I thought they'd be to draw, especially since I think they're prescription and make his eyes look a little crazy but it was fun nonetheless and it helped me improve a little by highlighting a few areas I need to work on more so really happy to do it and hope you enjoy it. :)
