How to draw berries in pencil: step-by-step master class

in #art6 years ago

I welcome all lovers of fine arts!

With you @yurche with a fairly simple lesson in pencil drawing. Today we will try to depict a small branch of red currant.

Of course, it is best to draw from nature. The fact that by doing so, you are before the eyes of the three-dimensional shape and can notice all of its nuances, having considered the berries from the different parties. But if there are no berries at hand, it does not matter. I, for example, drew from a photo.

Start with outline. At this stage, everyone comes as it is convenient. For example, you can arrange the details of the picture by proportions, immediately displaying the shape of the berries. And if someone is so difficult, you can do it on the points, then connecting them into circles and lines.

Once the main contours are applied, you need to determine where to start hatching. It is also necessary to decide in what kind of technique you will do it. There is a very large number of different options for hatching. If you have already drawn many times with a simple pencil and have considerable artistic experience, this stage will not cause difficulties.

For those who have not dealt with shading, I recommend reading my previous articles on this topic. All references will be at the end of the post.

Today I decided to apply a multidirectional stroke. This technique is not the main academic and refers to the decorative types, but I just like it, and the currant berries in their form have it to this method of drawing.

Traditionally, I start with the darkest parts of the picture. The fact is that here I just strongly click on the pencil, and I get the most dark areas. That is, I know that it will not be darker, and then I can only do the areas lighter as the gradation and eventually finish on a barely gray tone.

Important information! If you draw in the reverse order, that is, from the light parts of the picture to the dark, then there is a chance to make a mistake and to darken by the end of the drawing where it is not necessary. And when you get to the darkest areas, the tone of the pencil is not enough.

Now, while I'm drawing the basic shapes of berries, I'm not so worried about what and where is darker or lighter. Of course, this is important, but all the changes in tone will still be at the end, so now I pay more attention to the forms of berries, branches and clear water drops.

On the drops I would like to talk separately. Water has both refraction and reflection. As a rule, the drops are drawn much lighter than the rest, but it also happens that there are many different objects that have a dark tone. Then the water pattern begins to present a contrast: very light and very dark areas next to each other. Here you can not be shy and put pressure on the pencil to the maximum.

Speaking of this kind of hatching, it can be noted that it is drawn at different angles and perfectly designs your brush and fingers so that you can work with drawings of even greater complexity. It is advisable not to turn the sheet of paper after the hand, but to turn the palm in different directions.

If you suddenly noticed that too many overwritten your drawing the back of his hand, then put a plate or just a blank sheet of paper, and hand lean on him.

At the end, when you are finished with the shape, bring your drawing to the mirror or turn it over. You can also squint. So you will notice what elements of your drawing you have not darkened or darkened. Now is the time to correct such shortcomings.

Important information! The method of bringing a picture to the mirror or turning it over has existed for a long time. The fact is that our eye, when we draw something for a long time or just look at something, as if "blurred", that is, ceases to critically adequately analyze the incoming information on the optic nerve. And the mirror gives us a fresh perspective. It turns out that the picture seems to be the same, but is perceived fresh and differently. It's pretty easy to recognize your mistakes.

Here are our berries and you're done! I hope you will benefit from this little lesson. I wish you all interesting creativity and good luck in your new endeavors.
