All Eyes on Bellydancing (Teaser)
I have just gotten back from interviewing one of Malaysia's finest bellydancer, Sophia Kong who also runs her own academy in Empire Damansara, Malaysia. As you all have probably gathered from the title, this would be just a teaser post and the full writeup will be up probably this coming week.
After the World Belly Goddess Festival 2019 came to a successful close, my friend showed my belly dancing post that I've written on Steemit called, 'zord and bellydancing' to the teacher. She loved it and was so happy to hear that this bellydance industry has gotten some attention. Since then, we've set up a meet and together with @notimetospace, have decided to bring #teammalaysia to the heart of Bellydancing in Malaysia. In the upcoming writeup, we would hear the life story behind how Sophia founded her academy and what made her so passionate about belly dancing. It was a casual interview and I personally enjoyed hearing from Sophia herself after the festival took place.
It is a rare art in Malaysia and is often thought as forbidden by some due to principles and belief, but I saw this was a form of dance and a beautiful one at that. I was privileged to be able to interview Sophia, who also organized the World Belly Goddess Festival today, in hopes to bring this industry more exposure and awareness to the public. So often we hear the word bellydance and would relate it to Shakira but that's all we would have probably seen on TV. The truth is, the techniques and skills take to bellydance has its own sophistication and as mentioned earlier, a beautiful art form.
I'm so eager to start the full writeup soon but I must now rest my tired body. Oh and btw, just a little more snippet about what went down during the interview, @notimetospace got her personal bellydancing lesson from Sophia herself! Wait till you read the full article :)

Most people think bellydance is related to some sensual thing I guess because of the belly-exposed? So it is good you write about them to clear some air. 😊
I am more rested and will be back to usual Steem groove soon.
It is pretty sensual as the whole dance was supposed to be like a celebration to Women's childbirth and goddess worship. Over the centuries, several other dances came into fusion. But unfortunately, belly dancing often holds a bad stigma in people's eyes often misunderstanding with the other erotic dances.
If you can believe it we have a really strong belly dance scene in my country, Greece. Girls like it a lot because it is relaxing,fun and they exercise their creative skills by making costumes. Nice to take a peak at the Malaysian dance scene:)
Ohh yea I heard from the lady I interviewed that Greece was one of the 'hot spots' for belly dancing. The Malaysian scene isn't huge but there are still academies around teaching. :)
