West of Main Art Crawl

One of my places of work serves as one of the hottest art galleries in Vancouver. The Roundhouse, that is its name, is a proud host to the West of Main Art crawl.
Without further ado, take my hand and follow me in this wonderful journey inspired by @ilovedietcoke’s stellar new tag #artinthestreets. Make sure you reward this Steem visionnaire by using this tag a lot!

This sculpture brings the movement of nature in the public sphere and also some of its mystery.

Who doesn’t like to be greeted with a large bouquet of flowers. Yes please!

Those creatures in the lower right corner ARE SO AMAZINGLY CUTE! I want to take them right home. I love the foliage hair, always have, but to see it on top of those expressive, thatrical and sympathetic faces takes the cake.

This interpretation of the forever iconic East Van cross by Barbara Bowlsby is one that plunges the scene in Nature but also in the white hot room where mathematical equations are resolved. I like how the one point perspective leads to a soft curve shying away from the viewer.

Robin Ripley gives us an explosion of thoughts which you could interpret in many ways. The low relief made of what seems to be pages cut up from a book casts sharp shadows on the surface accentuating the work. Highlights of red add a detailed contrast to an otherwise muted composition.

This work by Jennifer Hardwood speaks for itself. It transports you into this majestic place where the color field is distorted. Although the red is loud nothing clashes and instead of being provocative, the chromatic abstraction comes off lively. This feeling is taken further with the dancing brushstrokes guiding us joyfully all the way to the bits of blue sky reigning over the mountains in the upper left corner.

With more patience, this is the kind of art you would see me do. I love the play on scale which gives purpose to the fantasy theme which can so easily go cheesy.

This bouquet of hearts is like an offering from the supernatural. This is but a photo but I kid you not when I say there is a visceral reaction to seeing it in person.

So far the photos were without filters but I took these last two on Main Street the opening night of the crawl where the lighting was more subdued. After a long picnic, my friend and I were hoping to hit a few destinations but we were too late so we went to the pub instead. This wolf painting and the next one are from a cafe that was still open and our one stop for the West of Main art crawl.
