She was born and raised in the Bronx. She has two sisters: the eldest - Leslie, the younger - Linda, a journalist. Herfather worked as a programmer at the Guardance Instance company, her mother was a housewife. After a few years, parents saved enough money to buy a two-story house, which was difficult for a relatively poor family. At the age of five she began taking singing and dancing lessons.
