[CR] The first bloom in winter

A migraine kept me up late last night but instead of leaving myself to sink deeper into limbo, I chose to channel that energy into forming new ideas for my Etsy shop.

Sculpting takes quite a bit of time so I was thinking that I could sketch up stickers and pins with the time in between. Now, the problem is finding out what style works for each medium. I’m secretly dreading simplistic drawings...like chibi sketches. Don’t get me wrong I’m all for the kawaii but I absolutely SUCK at drawing cute little drawings. I don’t know why! I really wish I were good at it then I’d have a pretty funny daily comic that I could share every few days! If you have any tips, tricks or tutorials you can share for little chibi drawings then share them below.

Back to my selling roots.

Everything has been taken into consideration from the packaging to the price points. I’ve been taking mental notes...which I should convert into script instead. It’s a good thing that I like crafts because I can already image how tedious this will all be. Tedious but worth it!I’d like to have a variety of items that I can sell for a reasonable price. I’ve also been thinking hard and researching pins to find something that hasn’t been done yet. I’m diving deep into the nerd realm and I think I may have something. I’ll wait until I get my first draft sketches out before I announce anything since I’m not trying to bite myself in the tush.

Early January blues.

I took a break from my thoughts to stare out my window. Accepting that it’s finally winter. I’m not the type of person who thrives in the winter. The one thing that’s kept me going is discovering our first bloom in winter. Earlier in the fall @kommienezuspadt suggested that we plant flowers in our Aerogarden, which is an indoor hydroponic grower for plants that I got for him last Christmas. Usually we’d have an overflow of herbs (that we weren’t using) growing so I’m glad we switched to flowers. Two weeks in and I noticed that he had planted snapdragons! They’re my favorite so I took a moment to photograph them for all to see! I’m so looking forward to having these throughout the winter. I need to get more glass vases.

Fleet Foxes

Every heard of Fleet Foxes? No? It’s a folk band. I love listening to them in the winter and I’ve created lots of art listening to their old albums. Every time I make an attempt to listen to them in the car with the boys @kommienezuspadt will suggest a band with a similar sound. I almost always tell him to hold the front door while I finish listening to the one track. Right now he’s home dealing with a second round of the flu. @guthrie and I have been hanging out at @caffetto, soon to leave for the grocery store. The next few hours will consist of me making him another snack before bed, Adventure Time and then ushering him up into bed. I can’t wait until he’s in bed, then I can start sketching.

Tell me what you love/hate about winter.

Thanks for stopping by to read my thoughts and view my photography. 🦊

I hate the consumerism push around this time of year - bambarded with sales for useless things that people will most likely just trash and throw away in 4 years time. It almost always is sales using emotionally manipulative taxtics that are in the form of "If you love your family this season you will buy them this." It remains a shallow season for me, one that makes me feel even more alone than I already do. The suicide rate goes up around the Holidays for a reason.

What do I love - It's cold out so I can layer up. I like layers and layers - I would like to exist in a full portable bed spread made of robes around winter if I could ha ha.

The crackle of a fire sounds nice.

More quiet snuggles in the wintertime.

I don’t mind layering up for the fall but for some reason it just doesn’t look too cute for me in the winter. My layers never seem to fit into my coat and that’s frustrating. 😑

That is a great idea about growing flowers.

I usually LOVE Winter, but last year I chose to NOT go to the UK over winter and to stay at our house, Toad Hall, which is magical in Spring Summer and Autumn, but last winter it was NOT.

We had the coldest winter in my own memory and even the sea froze solid out front and we lost power and the generator died and it's really a Summer house so you are pretty cut off with feet of snow and no power. That is when I no longer liked New England winter.

This winter I smarted up and am back in the UK, that is southern UK and it's winter's are my favourite as it really is like Spring in New England. Temps usually stay from 40s -50s F (I'm so bad with Celsius even though they use it here) there is a lot of rain, but the garden stays green. I even picked roses from the garden yesterday.

The days are much shorter here than in New England this time of year, but I don't mind as that feeling of Spring just really invigorates me. Even in London this time of year flower boxes and planters still have such lovely things growing in them. Of course I shouldn't jinx it, I'll probably make it snow then!

Good luck with etsy, it IS a lot of work creating product I know, I've done that road as well. It is hard work as well as creative drain, but you can also augment it, this time of year especially, with some local arts/crafts sales, and you get a good referral then to handing out your card with your etsy site on even if you don't sell at the show.

Good luck and it'll be April before you know it :)

These are very sweet dream like photos :D
Hope you're better now!
I love folk bands, been listening to Eluvietie and TYR a lot, so I'll check out Fleet Foxes ^^
I hate about winter here is that I can't go out much because of air pollution -.-
The best part of winter for me is snowboarding (whenever I can)!
