I made this painting, which is about the size of your average doorway, and then took a picture of it with with too much glare. If I allowed myself the time, I would dig it out of the hole of a closet it is currently buried in and photograph it in a way that doesn't wash out the background.

It isn't laziness that prevents better documentation. There are ten other large pieces stacked in front of this one and each has less hope than the next of seeing the light of afternoon. It is safe to assume that many of you, as painters, writers, songsters, comedians, actors, and so on, struggle to introduce your work to the world. You contact galleries, publishers, and venues and, sooner or later, become discouraged about marketing yourselves more.

Still, there are newer and better platforms, like Steemit, that the artist type can use for advantage. I am curious; do any of you have a story about something someone has done to get noticed that would be considered brilliant? For example, I knew a guy who rented a U-haul trailer, filled it with his art, and then parked it near a large gallery during an opening. He drew in a lot of traffic that way. Do you have a story?

Thank you.

You have a completely unique style @acolucky! I can feel the texture through my computer screen.

Funny you should ask about people getting their art noticed. I know a very talented painter who hangs his stuff up on telephone poles and leaves. Sometimes he hides and waits to see how long the paintings will stay there. They are usually gone within a couple hours.

Thanks. In a similar way, I set six ceramic tile paintings around my neighborhood. I chose places with the small libraries next to the street. I got one response and I found another one a month later tipped over and broken. I don't know about the others. So kind of a blah experiment. I like the telephone poles idea though.

Hmm, I have another friend who paints and draws on toilet seats. She installs them in bar bathrooms around New York. Some of them have went missing. Haha. Can you imagine stealing a bar toilet seat?

Stealing it? Yes. Bringing it home? No.
