Winter Melon Steamed Meat

Today I share with you a delicious home-cooked dish in China: Winter Melon Steamed Meat.

Winter melon steamed meat This dish is made of pork and winter melon, The food made from pork is very much and delicious, The winter melon is tastes light, so the food combined with the two will not be greasy.

Winter melon is rich in nutrients such as protein, carbohydrates, vitamins and mineral elements. Each 100 g winter melon contains 0.3 g of protein, 1.8 g of carbohydrate, 0.9 g of dietary fiber, 65 mg of potassium, 0.2 mg of sodium, 14 mg of phosphorus, 5 mg of magnesium, 0.1 mg of iron, 27 mg of vitamin C, 0.02 mg of vitamin E, 0.01 mg of riboflavin. Thiamine 0.01 mg, niacin 0.2 mg.

Ingredients:

1: winter melon (100 g); 2: pork (150 g); 3: shiitake mushroom (five); 4: shallots (5 g); 5: garlic (2 g); 6: ginger (1.5 g); : salt (5 g); 8: oyster sauce (3 g); 9: soy sauce (1.5 g); 10: chicken essence (2 g); 11: white pepper powder (2 g); 12: eggs (one); : Potato starch (2 g).

Step:

1: Winter melon peeled and seeds, then sliced;

2: Chopped pork, mushrooms, ginger, shallots (1 g) and garlic;

3: Put pork, mushrooms, ginger, shallot, garlic, salt, soy sauce, oyster sauce, white pepper and eggs in the bowl, marinate for 10 minutes after mixing well;

4: The winter melon and the shallots are boiled in clear water for 30 seconds respectively;

5: Put the meat in a winter melon slice and roll it up, knotted with Shallot and placed in a dish (please refer to the video);

6: Steam the rolled winter melon meat rolls for 13 minutes;

7: Pour the winter melon juice, some water, salt, chicken and potato starch juice into the pot and cook for 1 minute on high heat;

8: Finally pour the cooked soup evenly on the melon meat roll.

Precautions:

1: The thickness of the winter melon slice is 2 mm;

2: The meat filling must be marinated for 10 minutes, so the taste is more fragrant;

3: How much seasonings are added according to what you like, the list is for reference only.

That looks very good. Winter melon is new to me, so I went and looked it up. It wasn't exactly what I was expected. When you said melon, I thought, that looks kind of like a honeydew melon, but I've never heard of cooking it before, especially wrapped around meat. Now I get that winter melon is more of a vegetable.

Does it taste like anything else that would help to describe it's flavor. I like the fact that the neither the meat or the winter melon come out greasy tasting.

I think it's great the diversity and cultures of food we can have here. Need to try it sometime. :)
