"Katyusha" (from Russian: Катюша, Katyusha – a diminutive form of Ekaterina ) is a Russian song composed by Matvey Blanter/ lyrics by M. Isakovsky/ in 1938, and gained great popularity during World War II in the USSR as a patriotic song, inspiring the population to serve and defend their land in the war against Nazzi Germany.

The lyrics are about a Russian woman called Katyusha. Standing on a steep riverbank, she sends her song to her lover, a

soldier serving far away. The theme of the song is that the young soldier will protect the Motherland and its people while his girl will remain true to him.
