I first read the Foundation Trilogy by Isaac Asimov about 35 years ago, and read it again a few days ago,the complete set is quite long but makes for a good read, I have always liked Science Fiction.

Now this trilogy is about the Galactic Empire and how a psychohistorian, which is a very advanced form of psychology which also uses mathematics to predict the future actions of huge masses of people creates the beginning of a new empire. This trilogy starts at the capital city of the Galactic Empire where the psychohistorian after much study predicts that the empire will disintegrate in a couple of centuries, so to avert the 30,000 years of chaos and anarchy that will follow he decides to found a society on a far away planet that will be able to keep knowledge and technology alive, this was to be called the Foundation.

But at the same time and at the other end of the Galaxy he also founded a Second Foundation, this one peopled by psychohistorians who would eventually develop their minds in a way that would make them the leaders of the ready made empire the scientifically advanced first Foundation will have founded.

I have always been amazed at how some Science Fiction writers have been able to foretell many scientific and technical advances that have come to pass. But in the Trilogy's case I have been wondering if maybe what it portrays actually happened in humanity's past and while we have been evolving technically could there be a group of humans with super minds who are the real powers behind everything. Could these people really be the Deep State, Elites etc. that we hear so much about.

And maybe we are not going down a good path because these humans with super minds have become corrupted along the way?

Sort:

Very thought provoking novels. Time is a loop and we are repeating past cycles. Can we break free?
