AskSteemit: Which dApp do you believe can bring Steem to the masses?

in #asksteemit6 years ago

I haven't done one of these #asksteemit posts in some time, the r/askreddit used to be one of my favorite subreddits and I really enjoy discussions, especially now on an immutable blockchain and being able to reward others with something else than just imaginary internet points.

I was writing a post earlier and replied with this comment to @lunaticpandora:

and it truly is something I believe in, I can't wait for the day where Steem decouples from the other cryptos and does its own thing. I understand that there is still a long way to go for that to happen, a lot of exchanges and fiat gateways needed but with the recent pace that Steem and dApps developing on it have been lately, even in a bear market, have been astounding. I can't even begin to imagine the amount of new developers that are going to jump onto Steem and start creating their own ideas and services on top of it once the price starts to give the currency some more attention again.

I am also really looking forward to instant account creation and a fix to the abuse to wanting to create accounts just for the free 0.1 Steem you receive, it has been an obstacle and bottleneck for some time now. What seems even more crazy yet not many seem to be talking about it is the low amount of liquidity, i.e. Steem sell orders existing on exchanges. Even though it doesn't mean a lot as traders can just place the orders once price starts to move up it still shows that once some people decide to buy in it doesn't take a lot for Steem to start swinging harshly upwards which it has done quite a few times in the past.

What I wanted to talk about in this post, though, is what you, the readers and followers of my post believe has the biggest chances of becoming the next big thing in the world originating from Steem. As some of you may have noticed and probably gotten tired of seeing at this point is that I've been streaming on @dlive quite a lot in the last few months. As someone who used to stream on Twitch but quit and longed for a streaming platform to be created on Steem it has been so awesome to see it being developed and grow to what it is today and I want to thank @wa7 the founder of @dlive for his vision, investment and ongoing development of it. To me right now it is one of the dApps with the biggest potential for mass adoption and if you are someone familiar with streaming platforms in general you might understand the advantages and differences of doing it on Steem. I'm wishing it the best of success in the near future and hope I will be able to watch my favorite streamers and be able to reward them with votes and feeless transactions very soon on Steem!

Everyone who has earned or invested into Steem should be able to do whatever they want with their Steem Power - is the saying. Of course this does not mean that you can tell others not to flag you with their stake either as it is costing them to do so and often they have a good reason for it. With that in mind, though, and considering the possibility of unlimited new dApps starting out on Steem - what are some possibilities you can imagine for Steemians to do with their voting power in the near future if the demand for Steem Power is constant and increasing over time?

Imagine services that let you trade your voting power directly for liquid Steem/SBD or being able to purchase items with it directly. Sounds really crazy right? Well it may not have to be. Steem has a really high annual interest rate compared to banks, etc, and the interest to aquire Steem and hold it as an investment can become quite big in the near future. Sacrificing curation rewards, i.e. interest to instead purchase items through services on Steem could be something that would be possible. There are stores that have a higher price included in the items they sell depending on the percentage of thefts that happen annually, this could be compared to a percentage of flags where the service could lose out on.

I can't shake the image of driving up to McDonalds and the cashier giving you a QR code and saying "please upvote 10% here" and you getting your order 5 minutes later.

Steemit, which dApp do you believe can bring Steem to the masses?

Sort:

I'm hoping we can start bringing in a significant number of new users with @steemmonsters. I wouldn't really call this "the masses", but I expect it to bring a relatively large number of people with the expectation of working hard and spending money and not getting everything for free.

That will hopefully help inject money into STEEM either through the game or otherwise. They come for the game, and then slowly expand out into the rest of the ecosystem.

I came to say Steemmonsters.

Account creation - [x]
Gateway from fiat - [x]
Broad popular appeal - [x]

A couple of months from now we're going to have successful STEEM hodlers who've never bought in, don't know anything about crypto and have never posted on steemit.

Yes, here to say @steemmonsters as well! Excited for the Kickstarter campaign and what we'll see in user numbers / activity!

@steemmonsters has been doing great and will also be an important pillar to show others that creating games on Steem can be quite successful. I'm hoping to see a lot more games, you guys included, being created on Steem in the near future!

Amen to that!

Yep came here to say steemmonsters as well.

Even though steempeak.com is trying to be the intuitive full featured front end for the blogging it's still gonna be something like steemmonsters that will bring a lot of excitement.

Gamers have always been pioneers in tech adoption so I have big hopes on dlive being a gateway for many twitch streamers and YouTubers to come on board, especially as censoring becomes harder and harder on those platforms due to political alignments of the owners, they will find a safe haven here.

As for non gaming related, I'm hoping Steempress to be able to attract tons of bloggers and content creators to steem when they finish their integration project and Utopian to bring as many devs that are looking to escape the chains of working in a cubicle!

Honorable mention would go to steem monsters, that falls on the gaming side of things though, can't wait for the draft battles to become a reality!

I am going to flake out here and say it will not be one application. Instead, it will be consistent growth across a number of different apps.

If I had to state that one would do it, I will go with "it hasnt been created yet". The reason I say this is because if there is one thing that hooks a massive amount of people, it is a kick-ass game. That is what spreads.

Since we are only starting to see gaming being developed on here, it will take a bit of time. But @steemgg is a start (2 more games already added to it).

An app that doesn't try to mimic previously successful ones (like Reddit let's say) but creates a whole new demographic. Reason is the time of those successful apps and sites is ending. They were successful, they're done. The new generation doesn't care. It should be named something more unique than d-whatever (unless it's @dbag, just saying) and introduce a demographic we haven't seen here yet.

Yeah, I had the same thought, was hoping this post would awaken some new ideas (even though the readers would decide not to disclose them). There's a lot of new dimensions Steem brings into the game that haven't existed before so there are possibilities of something completely new to be created which goes viral quick.

I've got a few proposals that were made to me but none are sure-fire successes and in the end it's a game of $$$ for development. Personally, I'd like to see something aimed at real education (not the myriad classes about how to succeed on or use Steemit).

not the myriad classes about how to succeed on or use Steemit

Why do you hate STEEMITSCHOOL!?

You know something like real education you're right, so many junk initiatives aim at educating but the real intention they have is to get whale support and money, maybe a real time education backed by STEEM

Coming soon! Watch my blog ;)

I have been working on this for nine months @promo-mentors.

If dapps doesn't follow previous sucessful setting then it will take long to carry the masses along because it will take time for masses to aclamatize to a whole new setting strange to them

"Tasteem" isn't "dfoodreviews". The naming convention isn't necessary imo. Naming conventions are for the military anyways.

I actually thought about this, but we have Ebay! ;)

Dtube has to be it! Oh, and Dlive! No censorship on the Steem Blockchain should be reason enough for the masses to jump in. We just have to let the word out.

It's hard to say but if I were to chose it would be @oracle-d and indeed @dlive.

IMHO, it hasn’t been built yet. . In the next few years I feel someone is going to recognize the Steem blockchain for its capabilities and invest a substantial amount of USD/Steem into harnessing it, as opposed to creating and using delegation proceeds etc. Just my humble thoughts. Thanks.

As for which dApp will bring the masses, I can't say. I wouldn't mind if it was Steepshot, as an alternative to the offal that comes outta Instagram. If only girls knew that their cute selfies could net a profit occasionally, I think people would be more interesting sharers.

The brilliant prospects of what world will look it if it's STEEM inclined, even if it's an imaginative gesture I believe that the widespread of STEEM to the masses can decentralized buying, purchasing and even Ad marketing as well.

Well like we all know a lot of YouTubers flocked in to dtube and DLIVE an example are the @hodgetwins, if any dapps will bring STEEM to the masses it will be the streaming dapps Dtube and DLIVE because of the prospects it offers unlimitedely

The dapps are really exciting,we should also be mindful of our retention rate!

I am sure many people join Steemit and leave after a frustrating one month(people always quit though!).

There is this platform run by @surpassinggoogle called @ulogs. I have realized this project retains a big number of people.

This is how it works, you write a post of how your day wents,simple.....you are assured of a small vote from ulog or @surpassinggoogle.

I think we need such projects that encourage interaction. There is also somwtjing new called @actifit... you paid tokens to exercise....wish they hurry it up and make those tokens convertable to Steem!
