There are things you control
and things that you don't

In Astrology, the Personal Planets -- The Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus and Mars -- deal with the everyday business of life ... matters over which we usually feel we have quite a bit of conscious control. These planets move quickly, so we get a lot of experience working with their energy in many different situations, many different combinations.

But there are situations and life areas that seem much more beyond our conscious influence ... where events and experiences take on a "fated" quality. These areas -- and the conditions we meet there -- seem to expose us to a sense of greater meaning and purpose. Their work is provocative -- and instructive. We emerge from encounters with them having learned something important -- and possessing skills and wisdom that will serve us well in the future.

These are the Karmic Planets -- Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. Here's where they are located -- and what they're doing -- in our lives this month.

Jupiter Journeys
Where you are working to expand

A bright and very inviting new phase of growth has recently begun -- so new, in fact, you may not have seen much of it yet. Jupiter moved into its home territory of Sagittarius -- and as always, it's just so proud to be there. Jupiter deals w/ expansion and growth, higher learning and embracing all the complexities the wider world has to offer. It's time to open your mind, widen your horizons and travel -- intellectually, physically -- either or both.

The attitudes that go with this shift are optimism, confidence, anticipation and faith. Jupiter in Sagittarius is the living embodiment of the idea that everything always works out for the best, and it's gearing up to demonstrate that again. This doesn't necessarily mean everything you touch will turn to gold. In real life, the Midas Touch is mostly a legend. But it does promise that whatever happens is being done for your best growth and highest good. Hang onto that thought. It may be important.

Concentrate on yourself

In this month's chart Jupiter is basically smack up against the Sun and Mercury (Rx). You and your mind are so ready to step into this more cheerful perspective. The promise of better things to come doesn't itself seem to come around often. So when it does show up, you don't want to miss it -- especially this year, since Scorpio's passage was so brutal -- and it's not quite over yet.

Concentrate on yourself, you attitude, your plans, your confidence. Resurrect your faith if it got lost in the hassle. Put yourself in the best possible shape to begin this new segment of learning. Your growth -- and advancement -- and prosperity -- are important elements in this part of the journey. You need to be there to collect them.

Saturn's Scenery
Where you are building fortifications and structure

A less joyous but equally important project is coming together under Saturn's direction. This one has been going on for a while, so we're beginning to see some results of its work. (The ultra-conservative attitudes in government are part of it, but so are the special investigations. Saturn may be stingy as hell ... and mean-spirited when he has the upper hand, but there's an integrity in him that also demands justice.)

Saturn in Capricorn is also a planet, happily residing on his home turf -- for the time being, so as is the case with Jupiter in Sagittarius, all the traits and interests associated with both the sign and the planet are emphasized. Saturn's energy is involved with building and fortification. He organizes life and creates structures designed to get you through rough spots and lean times -- when life bears down hard.

It's for your own good

He is concerned for your survival and safety -- and so he works on weak spots and vulnerabilities. The attitudes here are cautious and determined. This is a do-what-needs-to-be-done situation -- mostly because you don't have much choice. There are no shortcuts -- no chance of "rescue" -- and often there are no easy answers. (That's where the "hard work" part comes in and pays off -- eventually.)

As you can imagine when this kind of construction and reinforcement are called for, you need to be disciplined, steady and responsible. You may be dealing with limited resources -- or even inadequate ones. The trick now is to make things stretch until you get through this rough spot.

This month, this issue is affecting your finances, your income, your supply sources -- and perhaps your possessions. Being able to make it ... and meet all your obligations to you and your dependents has come into sharp focus -- and you'll be working on managing this ... and finding answers and solutions .. for the next several weeks.

Uniquely Uranus
Where you are exercising your ingenuity
and learning to be uniquely yourself

Conventional wisdom depicts Karma as some kind of Cosmic balance sheet that records actions and reactions, profit and loss. But Astrology shows that Karma is so much more than learning simply through trial and error, racking up rewards and setbacks. In fact, that notion is at the lower levels of spiritual evolution. The real heavy hitters are still to come.

Uranus energy is about one of them -- learning to be yourself and value yourself. (And there's a lot more to all this than I can include here.)

Presently, Uranus is retrograde and occupies the final degrees of Aries. This is a distilled essence of being unique, being independent, being authentic and honoring your individual self to the max. We've been working on this particular flavor of Uranus -- and learning to shape life to suit yourself -- with you and your talents at the center of it for the past seven years. These final months, until March 2019, are to deliver some final lessons on that topic and mop up any loose ends.

Be here

Pay attention to any invitations or insights that show up -- especially any that center on themes of being in charge of your future, mastering your own destiny, being true to yourself, achieving autonomy and being self-regulating. These are the foundation of what we will build next and it's important to get them right. This is one last chance -- so pay attention.

Ways to promote yourself, ways to put yourself in the spotlight, unique and interesting ways to express your talents -- and your idiosyncratic self -- are the theater where this is unfolding this month. Experiment more. Walk on the wild side. Shake loose from some lingering inhibitions. Find your original, genuine voice -- and character -- and see what the discovery reveals.

In the Land of Nod
Where you are developing your creative artist,
your healing skills and your spiritual center

If Uranus is about honoring and expressing yourself, your intuition, your ingenuity and your insights on an individual level, Neptune is about putting these things in the context of your connection with The Divine. Neptune energy is the most difficult of all to describe -- because it is both complicated all by itself ... and because it means so many different things to everyone.

It is incredibly subjective and ethereal. What you take from contact with Neptune energy may be profoundly meaningful -- and impossible to either describe ... or share.

It is the prime ruler of imagination and fantasy ... but it also rules delusion and insanity. It also rules your faith and your spiritual principles -- not the theology and religious convictions of Jupiter, but the inspirational feelings, the knowledge of oneness with something immense which is both You and Everything all at once.

These are all extremely mystical concepts and very subjective concerns -- the "you had to have been there to appreciate it" kind of experience.

Aligning with The Divine

Neptune in the third Cosmic Element that is back in his home sign at the moment. That sign is Pisces, and while there for the next decade or more, it is resurrecting, reinforcing and replenishing everything (and more) I just described. You are undergoing an extensive spiritual renaissance that, when complete, will be closer to The Real Thing than whatever existed before.

Right now, this month -- which is such a tiny part of the whole puzzle -- it is working in the area of family, home, your past, your memories, your emotions, feelings and gut instincts. There may be survival themes woven through this -- and an appreciation of how your experiences since you arrived on this Earth have made you who you are today.

How you receive this, how you honor it, and what it means to you ... is totally up to you. But some kind of message is coming together that gives "meaning" to everything. Think about it occasionally -- as a way to invite it to reveal itself to you. It exists -- and it is important.

Welcome to Hades
Where you deal with destruction and resurrection,
dissolution and renewal, matters of life and death

Pluto energy is awesome -- in every sense of the word. It is extraordinarily impressive -- and extraordinarily relentless. It lays waste to what is useless, worn-out, exhausted, inappropriate, obsolete, etc. -- whatever has served its purpose and is ready to move on. And it takes the raw materials recovered from the process of destruction and refashions them into something simply miraculous -- to replace what was lost.

An encounter with Pluto energy is wrenching and tragic on the one hand ... unspeakably inspirational on the other -- all in the same Gestalt of experience -- and there is no way to separate the two. It is grief and recovery, discarding and replacing, demolition and restoration. It encapsulates the fundamental process of Life. It operates on every level. It constantly repeats and reveals The Most Fundamental Truth. Nothing that exists is ever destroyed; it just changes form.

Where Life is born anew

Somewhere in your world this process of complete renovation is at work. (In the real world, it's happening in matters of government, corporate power, big business control, etc. These are all due for a date with The Reaper -- sooner rather than later at this point.) In your life, this same shattering of structures is underway. It always is. (That's what I mean by "relentless.")

This month it's operating in your area of abstract values, income generation, spending habits, possessions and supply sources. You may be dealing directly with this energy in your financial life -- and your survival concerns. That's one place where no one really wants to cope with instability and "rip-out-and-replace" exercises.

But that's where it's happening -- and when the dust settles, what you have left -- or what you'll have built in the meantime -- will be better, more suitable by far than what you had when you started this month's part of the journey.

It is laying the groundwork for substantial changes in you. Trust me on that.

I think they even give a reasonable little interpretive reading of your horoscope as part of the package. You'll need to know your birth information -- day, month, year, time and geographical place. Without all that your chart will have limited accuracy.

Although sometimes the background pictures in our visual essays support the topic and text, they don't always. Sometimes the connection is clear. Sometimes it's symbolic and subtle. Sometimes, there's no connection at all.

The scenes depict landscapes and natural features, buildings and wildlife. They were chosen because they show something lovely or interesting ... or simply because the photo appealed to me.

Our spectacular and remarkable planet is changing at astonishing speed. Rarely are these changes for the better. Few people seem to know ... or care ... or have the will and power to do anything about this. It may not be long before the world humans have known and lived in for centuries is forever lost. We certainly won't be able to make repairs as fast as we destroyed it.

So a few years ago I began collecting pictures of the way things were ... and still are for now, a record of the beauty we have while it is still ours to love and honor.
