In the beginning ...

Every great body of wisdom starts with a few fundamental pieces of knowledge or truth. It sets those significant bits of data in place like the cornerstones of a building, and commences construction from there. In Astrology, the symbolism of the The Sun, The Moon and the planets is part of that foundation. Each defines an important inner self in the mosaic of your character.

The Sun and its meaning are at the center of what most people know about Astrology. The Sun defines your individual being, your sense of self, the central spiritual essence of you. Its Zodiac sign position reveals characteristics, perspectives, attitudes and values you will use to express yourself. These are how you tell the world who you are -- and they show how you will make your impression on that world.

It's just a beginning ...

Your Sun energy is important. It is the center of your personality. But it is only one Inner Self in an Inner Family of 9 more members. These all have interests, power and influence. They also have their own purpose and agendas. Sometimes these fit with your Sun energy's agenda, sometimes they don't. But like members of a family or players on the same team, somehow, they must all manage to get along.

Sun energy information however is just one small stepping-stone in a fairly shallow part of the stream. The journey -- the study of Astrology -- if you continue, will take you into really deep water.

But everything has a beginning ...

If you're into self-awareness, however, ... if you want to know who you are and how you were designed to live and what your purpose is in life, the study of Astrology will hand you answers that will carry you confidently forward. (And it will hand you little surprises every so often as experience helps you discover ... "Oh, ok ... that's what that means!")

It can save you years of work and confusion -- and hundreds of thousands of dollars in therapy (if you're inclined to take that route) -- by revealing who you are -- who you are really -- as you strive to define yourself, to understand yourself and take your place in the Grand Scheme of Life. Here's a little taste of it.

The Fire Suns

The Sun in Fire Signs: (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius) These are the movers and shakers among us. They thrive on action and self-expression. They show leadership and initiative. They want recognition and proof that they are important -- that they and what they do matters. They want people to appreciate their courage, their daring and personal charisma.

The Fire Suns are self-confident, self-promoting and have captivating personalities. Fire Suns get things going, provide direction and accomplish work that changes the status quo into something different. They don't live in the past. They are concerned with the present and the immediate future. They are restless and adventurous -- and they want to make a positive difference in how people live.

The Earth Suns

The Sun in Earth Signs: (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn) These are the stabilizers, workers and builders. They are concerned with practical matters -- like the use of material resources, the useful applications of physical labor (or other types of "work") and the management of money. They work with physical substance and supplies. They want tangible results from their efforts -- things they can see, touch, count and spend!!

The Earth Suns are pragmatic and steady. They concern themselves with "the business of living." They rely on common sense and information gained through their five physical senses to understand and navigate through the world. They support and nourish things that are already started. They want to see living things grow and mature -- and they want a predictable return on their investments. They also want to influence how people use and manage their assets.

The Air Suns

The Sun in Air Signs: (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius) These are the thinkers, communicators and intellectuals. They work with information, ideas, knowledge and perspectives. They help form and shape beliefs and opinions. They read, write, lecture, study, learn, do research, share knowledge and carry on conversations. They are good at concocting theories and handling abstract concepts. They live almost exclusively in a world of the mind.

Air Suns relate to others intellectually, share thoughts and experiences, listen to feedback, and combine information into new ideas and possibilities. They observe, ask questions, conceptualize, and combine pieces of knowledge into new forms of expression. They value objectivity and open-minded inquiry. They want to shape how the world thinks.

The Water Suns

The Sun in Water Signs: (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces) These are the artists and mystics, the feelers and healers. They work with emotions, unmanifested potential and the search for joy and spiritual meaning in a material world. They are instinctive and intuitive. They travel the realms of imagination in ways that are inspiring and transformative. They are sensitive, responsive, protective and passionate. They feel the experiences and possibilities of life in ways the other signs may not know (or believe) even exist.

Water Suns are often extraordinarily creative in artistic efforts that rely on symbolism and metaphor to carry the message of the work. They have a rich inner life, profound abilities in fantasy and visualization, and are capable of tremendous empathy. They want to shape the greater perceptions of what the experiences of life and reality -- both here and elsewhere -- ultimately mean.

Thank you for stopping by!

If you've always known there was more to Astrology than Sun Sign material and the three line daily horoscope in the newspaper, climb aboard and follow this blog. You'll find a world of wisdom detailing how you were designed to work with life ... and why you are the way you are -- all in quick-to-read, easy-to-digest-and-remember, written-in-plain-English essays that offer plenty of food for thought.

Little by little, I'm doing a set of articles that talks about all the elements in your horoscope and what they have to say about you. If you "know something" about Astrology -- or know something about your chart placements, that will help you get more from this material.

If you don't ... well, this is one place you can learn. We all have to start somewhere ... because we aren't born knowing this stuff. Meanwhile, if you've never seen your horoscope ... and don't have a clue how to work with it, maybe it's time to find out. There are lots of "chart services" on the internet -- some of whom produce decent, readable charts "for free" and some are so awful and confusing that even I can't read them easily -- and I've worked with charts for decades.

One extremely user-friendly chart site is here: AstroLabe. I recommend them if you want a simple, easy-to-read chart. I think they even give a reasonable little interpretive reading of your horoscope as part of the package. You'll need to know your birth information -- day, month, year, time and geographical place. Without all that your chart will have limited accuracy.

Or, if you want to get serious and really talk about this, upvote this post and start a conversation in the comments section sometime in the next six days from the time of publication. We'll go from there depending on what you want to know.

Questions about any of this? -- Upvote this post and talk to me in comments. It's a terrific way to build value for yourself and the community ... and it will give me ideas of what to write about in future posts. Believe me there is lots to say about the way The Sun, The Moon -- and all the other elements in a horoscope, all the other components of Astrology -- work together to interpret you and your story -- and what it all means to the person you've become.

This is who I am.

About the art in our visual essays ...

Although sometimes the background pictures in our visual essays support the topic and text, they don't always. Sometimes the connection is clear. Sometimes it's symbolic and subtle. Sometimes, there's no connection at all.

The scenes depict landscapes and natural features, buildings and wildlife. They were chosen because they show something lovely or interesting ... or simply because the photo appealed to me.

Our spectacular and remarkable planet is changing at astonishing speed. Rarely are these changes for the better. Few people seem to know ... or care ... or have the will and power to do anything about this. It may not be long before the world humans have known and lived in for centuries is forever lost. We certainly won't be able to make repairs as fast as we destroyed it.

So a few years ago I began collecting pictures of the way things were ... and still are for now, a record of the beauty we have while it is still ours to love and honor.

The photos here are part of that collection, with sincere thanks to the artists who saw these moments ... and with their cameras ... preserved them. All of us at Enchanted Spirit are profoundly grateful to them for their generosity and skill ... and for the added grace, depth and dimension their art brings to ours.
