Starting again

The Sun arrived in Aries again last month, marking the beginning of Spring. It's another start around the spiral of life -- the journey through all twelve of the Zodiac signs. As far as the Cosmos is concerned, this is the genuine beginning of the new year. Each sign change marks an important shift in our use of both psychological and physical energy. Living consciously prompts us to honor each one.

We each use some energy more than others. Our horoscope reveals our strengths and our challenges -- and how well we handle each one of the sign energies is part of that picture.

In a way, we're invited to give ourselves a performance review as the changes arrive -- month after month. And the arrival of Aries -- around March 20 every year, is our chance to his the big reset button and start that personal inventory -- and evaluation again.

It's an important step in understanding ourselves -- and maximizing our potential. It's certainly not one to ignore. But it helps to know exactly what you're looking for -- so you'll know it when you see it. Only then can you really make an informed judgment about how you're doing -- and how you feel about it.

Aries' symbol is the ram.

We all have it

No matter what your Sun Sign, your personality contains Aries energy. Astrologers know we all contain every energy found in the Zodiac to a greater or lesser degree. It's what makes each individual complex and complete. And it's why Astrology works ... when you understand what it is saying about you, and why it doesn't ... when you don't.

Repressing, or failing to use, the components of your various Inner Selves sensibly is the cause of much personal confusion, heartache, frustration, and pain. It's also the source of many missed opportunities.

Most of us can't afford that. The wisest among us don't want to!!

Red is an Aries color!

It looks like this

So, let me talk a moment about Aries energy and how it may affect your personality ... and your life.

Aries energy is:

  • Your personal drive and initiative -- your ambition to launch new projects, embark on new adventures, pursue goals that are important to and worthy of YOU!!

  • Your desire -- and ability -- to get things moving, stir up action, make progress, and get things done!

  • Your ability to make things happen ... even if you have to get insistent and pushy about it.

  • Your ability to attract attention, make a difference, get results through your own enterprise and self-assertion.

  • Your willingness to go after what's important to you, stand up for what you believe ... and literally "fight for what you want"

  • Your sense of competition ... your enthusiastic desire to win

Using physical energy

  • First of all, you make the distinction between self-assertion and aggression, between being self-reliant and being a bully. One is good. The other is not.

  • When using your Aries energy wisely, you take care of yourself and your interests, but you do not hurt other people or allow them to hurt you.

  • You stand up for yourself -- and those who need your protection -- but you do not walk all over other people or violate their rights.

Making things happen / chasing your desires

  • However, you do what it takes to achieve your desires, reach your goals and get your legitimate needs met -- even if it steps on people's toes or strikes some people as pushy and impatient. Watch sports coaches, military officers, policemen, business leaders and competent government administrators in action. It's their job to win, to succeed -- not to do the popular thing or coddle people's feelings.

  • You make things happen ... you get things done ... even if you have to do all the work yourself. Succeeding in your efforts and doing things your way is important to you -- sometimes far more important than "playing politics" or being polite.

  • You attract attention, kick up a fuss, grab the reins of leadership ... and otherwise make your presence known. You don't have to be rude, abusive or hateful about it ... but you don't stay "on hold" indefinitely, either.

Asserting yourself

  • You assert yourself, act on your own initiative and throw your weight around a little if that's what it takes to make progress. You don't just stand off by yourself in a corner and act invisible. That pretty much guarantees you'll become invisible.

  • You act on your sexual desires ... and artistic inspirations. (But you don't break the law!! You don't commit rape. You don't force your attentions on people who clearly don't want them. You don't commit vandalism ... or call graffiti "artistic license.")

  • You stand your ground ... and aren't shy about provoking conflict and confrontation it this is what it takes to support your beliefs, values, needs and standards.

Doing things your way

  • You compete with gusto ... and you definitely play to win. You defend yourself and your interests. You insist on "taking the lead."

  • You are bold, open and candid about what you want ... and what you're willing to do to get it.

  • You act independently of partnership or group interests. In fact, you may prefer "going it alone" to all the compromise, negotiation and encumbrances "other people" bring to efforts you have underway.

Working consciously with Aries energy

When using your Aries energy, you promote yourself with enthusiasm and courage -- and "diplomacy" may be a casualty of your passion and success strategies. Sometimes nice guys do finish last.

The challenge here is to learn how to compete to win ... and when discretion and cooperation are better choices. People respect you more when you insist on fair treatment, when you show you have integrity and when you won't be pushed around.

If you want to include more Aries energy in your life, consider these tactics when responding to the events and challenges that come your way ... and incorporate these strategies into your daily routine.

Aries energy is warrior energy -- a vital part of everyone's mechanisms for self-protection and self-defense. It's not only unwise to repress these abilities, it's unhealthy -- and can even be dangerous. (Someone who can't or won't set boundaries and defend himself is pretty much setting himself up to become a victim.)

Your reward will be a more honest, direct and self-confident personality with plenty of autonomy and independence, able to take care of yourself with your own resources and on your own terms. It is a marvelous, indispensable way to engage the world.
