Smoke or Fumes Removal

in #b7376 years ago (edited)

Accomplish this NNC only when directed by the NNC [Smoke, Fire or Fumes] i.e. in the following cases :
- anytime the smoke or fumes become a serious threat to the crew or passengers
- after the smoke, fire of fumes source is visually identified and the source is visually confirmed to be extinguished
- after troubleshooting with A/C Packs was either successful or not successful

Keep in mind that a smoke, fire or fumes source that appears to have ceased, may blaze up when the airplane is ventilated by increasing or reversing airflow. Therefore and especially when the source is not visible, accomplish the smoke removal procedure only when really needed.

Do not supply oxygen to the passengers when the cabin pressure altitude is increased to 10,000 feet in the smoke removal procedure.
For passenger comfort, consider re-pressurizing the airplane after completion of the smoke removal procedure and only if smoke has dissipated.

With Packs OFF, smoke will vacate the airplane through the flight deck window. Airflow is from the cabin to the flight deck. Do not open the flight deck windows unless the source is confirmed to be on the flight deck. With Pack AUTO/HIGH, smoke will be guided via the floor level exhaust grills to exit via the main cabin outflow valve. Airflow is from flight deck to the cabin.
