What is Manna and why is it so important?

in #basicincome6 years ago

Manna is a cryptocurrency that was designed to be distributed as a basic income to anyone who signs up and verifies. This distribution is done regardless of nationality, economic status, or present work situation.

It is our belief that generational poverty is an outrage. The fact that most of the world turned a blind eye to this plight is part of what inspired this project.

Universal basic income is a divisive topic. People on both sides of the argument make strong cases.

Here is our view of this subject.

The first question is does one believe it okay for others to go without necessities such as food, especially when children in involved?

This is a yes or no question.

In our view, being properly fed is not an economic debate. Rather, it is a human rights debate. Does the world have the right to starve some of the population if it has enough resources to feed everyone?

Universal basic income seeks to provide the resources to those who are less fortunate. There are many who are writing about the fact that success is not through hard work but, often, luck. Yes people work hard. However, where one was born plays a large part in it.

Do you really believe Mark Zuckerberg would have created the most dominant media platform if he was born and raised in Laos?

Which brings up the second question; how to pay for it?

Since tax dollars tend to be involved, many have strong feelings on this. Some want a program such as this implemented while not cutting the existing social welfare programs. Others want none of their tax dollars going to "free-loaders" and "people who are just going to drink all day".

We choose not to enter the debate. The political system moves at a snail's pace with both sides drawing lines in the sand. That is fine. We prefer to do this without involving the government.

That is why we created Manna. This is a cryptocurrency that operates outside any governmental body. It belongs to no single country. It is the world's first global universal basic income. We offer the tokens to anyone no matter where they are in the world.

Generational poverty is a well-known topic. What we feel is less talked about is the subject of job loss due to automation. This is a real issue in our estimation meaning we are going to see more people dependent upon programs such as Manna.

Tens of millions of people face the prospect of losing their careers over the next decade through no fault of their own. The approach the Western countries are taking to prepare is inadequate in our view.

"I think we'll end up doing universal basic income," Musk told the crowd at the World Government Summit in Dubai, according to Fast Company. "It's going to be necessary."

Way ahead of you Mr. Musk.

Universal basic income is something we are doing. For the past 2.5 months, every week, we distributed tokens to all individuals who signed up and verified themselves as unique human beings.

Manna is an attempt to reduce the suffering of millions of people around the world. It is based upon our belief that everyone deserves the most basic of necessities in life. Using blockchain and cryptocurrency technologies, we find that many of the existing resistance to this idea falls away.

Only the most insensitive would believe that people do not deserve to have food to eat.

Signed up to this went it was Grantcoin. Great project.

I don't think everyone who doesn't want their tax dollars going to UBI have that opinion because of "freeloaders". It's because they don't believe someone has the right to fruit of their labor or that government is a good steward of it. Charity is charity and everyone should give what they can but its shouldn't be stolen. That's what makes projects like Manna so great. It is strictly voluntary.

It’s a pretty libertarian crowd here on Steemit. I know because I’m one of them. We see taxation as theft. That’s why manna is so intriguing to me. Technology, blockchain, and crypto are giving us things in abundance. I’m looking forward to seeing if Manna can deliver a decent UBI without involving governments, corporations, or government theft, I mean, taxation.

We tend not to get into that debate.

Our goal is to provide the universal basic income people so desperately need without waiting for government to work it all out.

One thing we do believe is that dependence upon the government is not a healthy thing. Slavery is slavery even if one changes masters.

Yes, dependence on government is pretty well slavery, as far as I’m concerned. Keep government out of UBI.

This is super interesting! How many coins will be in existence and what is the governance model for their distribution?
