Listening

in #bass5 years ago

Jimi Hendrix was buried on my 10th birthday,October 1st 1970 in Seattle Washington, i remember hearing the news on the radio of his death. My older brother was already playing guitar and had a baby blue Fender Stratocaster. Being 4 years younger i was heavily influenced by my brothers record collection and wanted a guitar too. My brother Alan was really into John Lennon and because he already had a guitar, I thought, well i could get a bass and be Paul McCartney to his John Lennon. So for Christmas that year i got a copy of a Fender Jazz Bass. shortly after that i got together with some other kids and we formed a band. We were able to set up our amps at school on the stage and practice. We must have sounded terrible but it didn't matter. We were having fun and for me that fire still burns. Now i still play bass and jam with a bunch of guys in my garage every week. I have been doing this for over 48 years. When i listen to songs the bass always jumps out to the front. My favourite bass players aside from Paul McCartney are John Entwistle of The Who, Geddy Lee,of Rush,Chris Squire of Yes and Sting of the Police. Its been a life long love affair.
