Beer Review - New Belgium Tartastic Strawberry Lemon Ale

in #beer6 years ago

Another fruit beer, it is getting to be that time of year. This one from a larger Colorado brewery, New Belgium who makes a lot of beer. The Tartastic line is one they have, with several different beers as part of it. This is the Strawberry Lemon Ale, which I recently picked up at Vintage Sellers here in Great Falls.

Presentation
This beer comes in a 12 oz brown bottle, which is pretty typical of most New Belgium beers. It has a single label on the main body which wraps around about 60% of the bottle. The front has red, yellow and white graphics with pictures of strawberries and lemons, as you would expect for the beer. It also has the classic New Belgium bike logo on the front top. New Belgium's labels are pretty consistent but vary based on the beer. The company description shown above is also on one side of the label along with a drink by date.

The Beer

  • Aroma: Had a fruity aroma, strawberry and lemon with a hint of ginger.
  • Appearance: A hazy light gold, almost straw color, with a modest head of white foam.
  • Taste/Mouthfeel: It was moderately carbonated with a slightly sour feel but smooth and light bodied. The strawberry taste was dominant but the lemon added a slight tartness but not overly sour. A very nice mix of the two fruits, I suspect using puree helped in achieving that taste mix.
  • Drinkability: A highly drinkable beer, light and fruity, great for summer time drinking. The abv was low and there is no bitterness at all.

Rating and Final Thoughts

I gave this a high 4.00 rating on Untappd, where its overall average is 3.22 from over 3600 raters. I clearly liked this beer better than most but I think fruit beers can be love em or hate em types. I really liked the refreshing taste of this, the strawberry and lemon were mixed just right. I highly recommend at least trying this beer.

4.00/5

Thanks for reading my beer review, hope you enjoyed it and maybe want to try the beer. Cheers!

Bonus Beer N BBQ photo, this was chicken breast on the bbq night.

A kindly review. Yeah, we get quite a selection of New Belgium here, so it's another one to try. The chicken looked good as well. Should be a calmer week for me, so I'm thinking of starting the music challenge from some time back - I've been thinking about what to put in. Cheers! Happy Sunday.
