Beer Review

Ultrasphere is a 6% Sour Ale brewed by the Hudson Valley Brewery in Beacon, New York. Hudson Valley Brewery is relatively new to the scene. They released their first beers in November of 2016. Hudson Valley Brewery creates a wide array of beer types, many which are aged between four and fourteen months. The Ultrasphere was a tart, Sour IPA made with milk sugar, raspberries & vanilla beans and hopped with Citra, Simcoe & Mosaic powder.

The Can

The Ultrasphere is served in a full pint can. It's a blueish purple background with a glowing, swirling yellow design that reminded me of candy corns. A starry galaxy can be seen at the center. It's a stark contrast to the deep red liquid situated inside the can.

The Beer

My friend Nick Capalbo shared the Hyperlight with @kirm-it and I a couple of weeks ago. The color of the Ultrasphere was a deep yet vibrant red. It was the most colorful beer I ever experienced. At first taste, it was very tart with raspberry flavor, but it sweetened up as it reached the back of the palate. It was rather strange, but amazing. Sort of like candy. I don't usually drink Sour Ales, but the Ultrasphere was something that I definitely appreciated. I look forward to expanding my experiences with Sours and trying more from Hudson Valley Brewery in the future.
