WHAT IS MALARIA

A disease caused by a plasmodium parasite, transmitted by the bite of infected mosquitoes.

The rate of mosquito infection increases day by day in the country and is very very rare to see areas with no mosquitoes breeding around.

Research has it that there are more than 1.5 million cases of mosquitoes every year.

First sign of malaria
Initially malaria feels like the flu with high fever, fatigue, and body aches, with hot and cold stages. Signs and symptoms in children may be nonspecific, leading to delays in diagnosis. People also may have headaches, nausea, shaking chills(rigors),sweating and weakness.

Treatment of malaria depends on the number of different factors that include disease severity, the particular species of plasmodium infecting the patient and the potential for drug resistance of the various species and strains of plasmodium. In general, it takes about two weeks of treatment to be cured of malaria.

Malaria can be treated. If the right drugs are used, people who have malaria can be cured and all the malaria parasites can be cleared from their body. However, the disease can continue if it is not treated or if it is treated with wrong drug. Some drugs are not effective because the parasites is resistant to them.

It is very wrong to treat malaria twice in a month or every month as this drugs could damage one's organs.

Self medication is also very wrong,it is more advisable to always run a test each time you feel you might be having malaria and also seek your doctor's advice on what drugs to go for.

FEW PREVENTIVE MEASURES YOU CAN TAKE

  • The use of mosquito nets is greatly encouraged to protect our bodies from mosquito bites while we sleep,at first using mosquito nets may feel weird if you are not used to it but definitely with time it's surely going to feel normal.

  • Also ensure that you keep a neat environment to avoid mosquitoes from breeding around the corners of your home especially areas with clogged water due to rain.

  • You could also try disenfecting your house regularly to reduce the population of the mosquitoes around.

I hope this was helpful, keep steeming!
