Ratel's photos #297 Forest Birds-234
The European pied flycatcher (Ficedula hypoleuca)
This bird has a very interesting plumage. Namely, the so-called "polymorphism.
But first, it is worth recalling about sexual dimorphism. The females are painted in the same type, the plumage is monotonous on top, the mixture is brown with gray, the bottom is white, and there are white spots on the wings.
But the males are seven types of coloring! Basically the differences are just on top. So. One type is black-brown, and the other is gray-brown. And between these two types there are 5 more transitional types of different contrast.
Young birds in the first months of life, looks like females.
