Birthday Party at the IceRink

One of my daughter's friends had a birthday party today at the local ice rink, so I thought I'd share some pictures, as I know this sort of thing isn't common everywhere.

It started with free skate. Some of the kids were seasoned pros, and some still need the helper bars, but they all seemed to enjoy it.

After a skatearound, we all headed up to the scouts box, which had been rented out for the party. There we had sandwiches, cupcakes, and the birthday boy opened his presents.

At the same time the party was going on, the facility was hosting a high school girls hockey tournament, so we checked out some of the action. Here two teams are lined up for the singing of the Canadian and US national anthems.

They cleared the ice to prep for the game.

Then the first lines came out and the game started.

My kids have skated before a handful of times, but they haven't had much exposure to live sports, so I think it was a good experience for them. They also really liked seeing the zamboni clean the ice. All in all it was a good time with friends and family.
