Cryptocurrencies should be treated as assets, not as currencies. This was stated by the Chairman of the European Central Bank (ECB) Mario Draghi in the framework of the initiative "Dialogue with youth".

"The Euro will remain the Euro today, tomorrow and in a month. The ECB is behind the Euro. And who is behind cryptocurrencies? Therefore, we refer them to high-risk assets, the value of which, as you can see, varies greatly," Draghi said.

He also said, now the cryptocurrency is not enough important to have a wag on the macroeconomy.

However, Mario Draghi recalled that the ECB does not monitor digital assets and its main function is to protect consumers.

Recall, in September last year, Draghi said that he headed the Institute does not plan to produce digital currency.
