Youtube crypto purge

in #bitcoin4 years ago

The Youtube crypto purge is a serious concern for all of us crypto enthusiasts. This past few hours as Christmas approaches, numerous crypto Youtubers were all banned, censored, blocked, or whatever you want to call it. This is bad news.

Youtube might be a commercial and centralized entity but many crypto enthusiasts were using it mainly because of the “reach” it provides. But with the purge recently, something is up. What’s going on? Many of my favorite crypto Youtubers are off. I don’t know if it is Youtube itself, or Government, or is it individuals who dislike certain channels? I doubt it is individual viewers calling for a block on their hated crypto channels who “dis” their alts. Not if so many channels are going down simultaneously. I looks like something bigger, like overall Youtube algos, or some overlord from the government or whatever, performing censorship.

And why did some channels go down and not all? Crypto Zombie is still up and streaming. As well as others. Chris Dunn however, who had a following of around 200k subscribers has been hit badly. He lost two years worth of videos – all deleted by YT. He was one of my very first YT crypto teachers. Max Keiser was my original crypto guru though, thanks to Russia Today News channel.

Many of us learn most of our knowledge about Crypto from Youtubers. Fortunately there are alternative sites or platforms for uploading video content, like Twitch, LBRY, Dtube, Steemit, Bitchute, Periscope, Flote and others. Even Uptrennd has a video upload option.

Has Bitcoin and Crypto met its nemesis? Is big brother aiming to cull the crypto herd? Or is it something less ominous? All these questions. I wonder if anyone knows, but it is a cause for concern. Crypto has been severely targeted, all of its short 10 year life – going on 11 years in a few days, based on the Genesis blockchain launched by Satoshi Nakamoto. I wouldn’t be surprised if this is an attack by the mainstream financial industry or the government against crypto.

Thanks to our crypto websites and platforms like this one, we can still read articles and blog posts on crypto to stay informed, learn and share ideas. Their is a saying: “The dogs may bark but the caravan will pass.” Similarly Bitcoin will go on despite the mainstream animosity or purge. A “voilation of community guidelines” as mentioned by Youtube seems lame. “Harmful or dangerous content” is nonsense. I know there are scammers regularly in crypto but any informed crypto enthusiast can see that the channels purged are good, informative educational channels.

It’s the centralized global powers that are fighting crypto. The elite mainstream are clamping down. That may be the main cause for the Youtube purge. However, there are scammers who shill ponzi schemes on Youtube and they need to be purged, so it could just be the YT algos making a big swoop and throwing out the baby with the bathwater. Fortunately Twitter still allows crypto content for creators. So check out the alternative and especially decentralized platforms on which speech is free and truth is available. Reclaim your sovereignty as a free agent. We may be the last generation born free as the world powers shift toward "dictatorship mode".

Any ideas guys, on what is going on with the YT crypto purge?

Who needs the four? One should try to boycott them all.

I agree. We should stop using the conglomerate media.

Yes if you mean the four mainstream platforms, then yes we should boycott the centralized platforms and move to the blockchain. Dtube needs to improve though, I have heard numerous people are not happy with the glitchy performance on Dtube. I have struggled with it and given up for now.

Agree on the improvements. Really like 3speak as a concept a lot. True. You are right. I should have wrote decentralized. What many of us are currently witnessing is also a non-acceptance that the corporate institutionalization of the creative liberty individuals can be substituted by a decentralized alternative-in the mainstream. Surely central Banks and corporations such as the four. Google facebook, apple and amazon are seeing this coming. There are alternatives. Even so called crypto currencies that aren't decentralized can be fallacious. What most do not understand is the economic theories of these tokenizations and that these and future DAO economics are more very different from money theory based on inflation or deflation governed by policies that restrict individuals in micro economically mobilizing and creating utility for their values. In around 4-5 years when this is more common it would have been people like us that went against the grain/broke into the cold! Imagine privatized internet? No freedom of information. Now imagine no exchange of value without coercive restrictions? With main stream i also mean that the pop culture barbie type non nerdy youtuber's or so called second hand influencers arent the ones that got their ideas first. They only had the money. I feel we we see the same stake holding class systems in many other networks like EOS where nodes are more expensive. Therefore again resulting into a centralized upper class ...

Yes the DPoS system of EOS is a concern with their 21 or so top voters, based on who is richest basically. It looks like a monopoly of the elite all over again. And they can have a 51% takeover any time they want, as they did last year already by some rebels who went against the vote of the block producers. Some cryptos are indeed less effective than others at maintaining Satoshi Nakamoto's standards.

Dear @julianhorack

I wasn't aware that such a thing is happening. Somehow it seem that best days of youtube are already gone. I'm myself glad that I never invested years into building account on youtube.

People and companies invested their time, energy, resources to build their influences. Moslty following current regulations and yet they are powerless against decisions made by youtube. Entire businesses are being ruined. That will damage youtube reputation deeply.

Crypto has been severely targeted, all of its short 10 year life

Very true. huge changes do not happen without resistance. And changes are often paiful. But changes are hard to stop.

Yours, Piotr

Hi there @crypto.piotr thank you for your interest and positive response. Yes the Youtube ban of so many very popular crypto channels is a major change in social media for us crypto enthusiasts and may be an effort to stifle the growth of bitcoin, or to regulate crypto somehow. This is a great concern as we need education of newcomers to the space and these were the most informative channels. I watch them regularly and they are on almost daily. Something about this change seems to be a sign of things to come in our crypto revolution. Pushback from the mainstream sector is occurring as the great powers shift economically and politically.

Hi, I saw that @ project.hope shared your post and I had casually posted a post on the same topic in my blog: Cryptocurrencies, Lies and Videos: Censorship in online video services Vs Blockchain & Cryptocurrencies

I share the view that censorship is worrisome, especially when the reasons that are argued are vague or appear unbelievable.

By the way, it's not just youtube the only platform that has been purging content and content creators that are related to cryptocurrencies or blockchain technology, in my post I refer to a colleague who was purged from DailyMotion without notice and it seems that it was with the same kind of argument that exists in the cases of cryptography youtubers.

Hey there good to be in touch, thanks for your link to your post. Thankfully the Youtube admin are responding positively since the purge and actually reinstating some crypto-related channels now.

That's good news.

Great piece of work @julianhorack

Resteemed already. Solid upvote on the way.

Many thanks @project.hope you are very kind.
