Trace your Food with Smart Containers
Some people have a pretty strong concern for the source of their food and this makes sense since proper sourcing of something you are putting inside your body is a pretty important thing. Right now being able to track a food's source isn't an easy task if you want to go down that path. But this is about to change. We have a technology today that let's us track things in real-time and we have another technology that lets us record data while keeping it transparent for anyone to see.
Yes, I am talking about IoT and blockchain technologies. A company called Smart Containers is going to use IoT and blockchain technologies to make a new service for supply chains.
Trace Food
SmartContainers right now makes containers for cold chains, which are supply chains that need the temperature to be controlled at cold temperatures to make sure the goods do not perish. Smart Containers right now offers the containers for medicines but is soon going to use it for food too. At the same time, it is also going to advance its techronology. It's containers already have IoT sensors and once the company syncs its service with the blockchain, everything about the container and the goods in it could be recorded.
Suppose a fish farm in Indonesia uses Smart Containers. The blockchain will record that the container had fish added to it from Indonesia. Then the blockchain can also record where the container went after that and the journey it took to get to the final destination. An important thing is that all this data can be time stamped. All this data will be accessible to everyone.
People could soon track down where the food they eat came from, when it was processed, and how it got to them. Even if you aren't too concerned with how food is sourced, you could at least use this system would be good to check the freshness and quality of food.
