A worldwide effort and international crowdfunding campaign has been set into motion to find the legendary creator of Bitcoin. The #Findsatoshi hunt was highlighted on news.bitcoin - C. Edward Kelso, in discussion of the enlistment of private investigators from Japan to New York in the search.

“It’s about time we found Satoshi Nakamoto,” Mr. Neff explains. “Before the new economy gained momentum and until Bitcoin did not cost nearly $20,000, digital money could have been called ‘geek pampering.’ The appearance of Bitcoin is widely compared to supernova explosion. And after one has happened, some uncertainty started to take place.”

Mr. Neff leads a crowdfunding effort on Boomstarter, hoping to raise $250,000 to hire private investigators from New York Intelligence Agency, Inc (USA), Goro Kayama (Japan), Private Detective London (UK) and Osobka (Russia) to track down the true Satoshi Nakamoto. The organizers have raised $45,000 so far. Source: zycrpyto - Iivine Sanchez.

After all, Satoshi is the one man with that 1 million Bitcoins in his wallet. His true identity may remain hidden, but not his wallet address. An early analysis in 2013 has shown that a single mining computer mined Bitcoin from block 1 to 36288 back in 2009 and not a single Bitcoin has been spent.

Several theories have been conceived to explain why none of the Bitcoins were spent, including:

  • A personal investment in Bitcoin
  • Wallet key lost, deleted or hidden in a vault for security
  • To show the true power of holding Bitcoin in an anonymous manner

A post on telegraph - James Titcomb names four likely Satoshi identities:

First, it would be Dorian Nakamoto. A 64-year-old Japanese-American living in California has denied and said: "I am no longer involved in that and I cannot discuss it." His birth name is in fact, Satoshi Nakamoto. Nakamoto was a a physicist before that also as a systems engineer and later a computer engineer for financial information services companies. Truly, this is the closest the reporters have gotten.

Nick Szabo, a New York Times author and author of bitcoin history book Digital Gold, is a man with a broad depth of knowledge on Bitcoin. Allegedly altering the dates of his postings, many have believed he is the reclusive founder of Bitcoin.

The death of Hal Finney in September 2014 due to a motor neurone disease is an unsolved mystery of its own. Finney was a Bitcoin pioneer and the first person to make improvements to the code. Believed to stay only a few blocks away from Dorian Nakamoto, his writing analysis was the closest to Satoshi. However investigations seem to have led to a dead end with inconclusive evidence.

Lastly, the self righteous Craig Wright apparently told his lawyers, "I did my best to try and hide the fact that I've been running bitcoin since 2009." Many also believed that the evidence he claimed about leaked emails and old blog posts were simply planted and a hoax.

A brilliant mind in the name of Satoshi would probably have created the blockchain without asking for a reward, fame or fortune. Spurred by the idea and invention is somehow the greatest achievement for any researcher, developer or scientist. He could be a mathematician or computer scientist in training, but the origins of his exact location is much more obscure.

So who really is Satoshi Nakamoto? It is important that we know who, or more about the conception of such a groundbreaking idea?

Why do we need Satoshi Nakamoto now more than ever? Is it an appeal to authority? The main point of bitcoin's existence is that it is a protocol that can run without any central authority. His disappearance proves bitcoin's resilience. His reappearance will symbolically mean the death of bitcoin.
