Arweave – Data Storage Expansion with Blockweave Structure

Storage has been one need man has always had since he learnt the art of acquisition. Storage patterns have evolved over time from physical systems using cabinets and drawers, to online – based platforms. The capabilities have experienced an unprecedented expansion from mere physical spaces to millions of terabytes available on cloud storages. However, all isn’t automatically well, as the problems that earlier plagued the physical system seem to have been carried over to the online platforms.

Problems
Challenges of data storage whilst being not limited to data losses largely encompasses that. Further, possibilities of data manipulation has grown to be a new wave of menace that is well capable of crippling an online storage platform. When veracity of stored information is in question, confidence level drops. Data can well be manipulated either before it gets into the storage system or while it’s right in the storage system. This has been an age long problem not new to our present generation. There have been several occurrences of the authenticity of information being questioned due to incidences of possible manipulations occurring.

Technological Solution
Going further on the blockchain innovation, the Arweave platform decides to rather implement a new and innovative technology known as the blockweave. The erstwhile blockchain technology comes with a prerequisite that involves ensuring all participating blocks are stored as full nodes, each possessing attributes of the entire chain. This is cumbersome and tends to be too voluminous. The blockweave introduces a functional network that doesn’t necessarily have to attach the burden of the full chain system to be able to participate in transactions. Using the Block Hash and the Wallet List systems, previous blocks can be effectively verified and new ones evaluated.
With the Proof of Access (PoA) and Proof of Work (PoW) mechanisms, the system algorithm would only incorporate data from a previous block that is randomly selected from an possible list of previous blocks. A recall function is incorporated for the sake of the newer blocks so as to effectively calculate the modulus of the block in question with respect to the block height it currently belongs to.

Data storage, no matter the size and format is encouraged to be carried out , while retrieval is made possible in the most expedient of all ways possible. Conclusion
Erroneously, users have come to settle with the notion that data placed on the web are indestructible and everlasting. Unfortunately, that isn’t the case. Just like in the physical systems, data storage is usually of a centralised nature, and hence information can well be lost if and when something happens to occur around the vicinity of the servers belonging to corporations in possession of such information. This has led to the shutdown of websites, retrieval of data, etc. For manipulation, editing of articles previously placed is very capable, thus providing a system with a lack of confidence. With the Arweave innovation, all these challenges are exhaustively addressed and solved.
