ARWEAVE: ENHANCED DATA STORAGE AND SCALABLE BLOCKCHAIN PROTOCOL
Blockchain technology is the most disruptive tech of 21st century . According to Wikipedia, "A blockchain is a decentralized, distributed and public digital ledger that is used to record transactions across many computers so that the record cannot be altered retroactively without the alteration of all subsequent blocks and the consensus of the network". Many blockchain infrastructures have been developed over the years, but the major drawback and area of concern is scalability and data storage. New startup protocols integrate into existing blockchain infrastructures to remedy the lags, for instance, on-chain storage feasibility. There is need for a revamped data storage protocol with great scalability and reduced cost features . The solution to the aforementioned shortcomings is a new advanced platform, ARWEAVE , a promising blockchain infrastructure set to deliver a scalable on-chain storage, upholding reduced cost and improved speed. The Blockweave (Arweave’s blockchain like structure) has a REST API which allows developers to build decentralized applications on it. I attended a seminar last year, 2017, on Future of Blockchain Infractures hosted by AFRIHUB. I was motivated as a fresh blockchain developer because I learnt a lot and was given hope that a day will come when scalability , data storage, transaction speed and cost issues will be history, and I’m extremely glad to see ARWEAVE sprouting to this effect.
Simply put, the primary goal of ARWEAVE is to make permanent and unalterable data storage a dream come true, reducing cost and enhancing speed. Many blockchain infrastructures like ETH, NEO, ARK, STELLAR LUMENS, NEBL etc have tried a great deal to curb existing issues. Notably, speed of transaction issues has diminished but data storage issues still persist, hence it's the bone of contention. ARWEAVE curbs the issues posed by maintaining archives using a single institution. These include vulnerabilities arising from document modification during storage and forgery or modification of document before being entered into storage. This is done by linking any document stored on weave with all other blocks on the weave cryptographically.
Developers worldwide can build apps like decentralized social networks easily with this improved technology, taking advantage of Arweave’s REST API. The apps will be seen as nodes of the main network. ARWEAVE tokens will be required for one to send information to the weave, which will be used to pay miners for maintaining the network and weave.
The four pillars of ARWEAVE include : Blockweave, Proof of Access, Wildfire and Blockshadows. These are the core backbone technologies making up Arweave infrastructure. All these ensure reduced cost, permanent storage and high transfer or processing speed.
ESSENCE OF ARWEAVE FEATURES (WHY IT'S UNIQUE)
• The permanent storage feature will serve when archiving documents or other data over a very long duration without alterations or loss. For instance medical, academic, media or other vital documents will be preserved for the long run.
• In the legal sector, it will assist a great deal in proofing a fact in the law court since all info stored can be retrieved at any time when need be and won’t be altered.
• Programmers can easily build apps with this improved technology utilizing even better features.
• Income generating businesses will be built using Arweave mainnet with high security features. Mainnet will be launched soon.
