Edit Your Posts After 7 Days

Yesterday @steemitblog gave us an update on the the next STEEM software upgrade (v0.19.10). Within this update lies a few major changes to the way the STEEM eco-system operates (AppBase and RocksDB).

An exciting new change includes the ability to edit posts after the 7-day payout threshold. Once the witnesses and RPC node operators deploy the STEEM 19.10 release, the blockchain will allow changes to be made to posts after 7 days from their creation. It will be up to each individual STEEM-based UI (for example Steemit, Steepshot, DLive, Busy, DTube etc.) to implement, however Steemit Inc. has already announced plans to incorporate the change granted they achieve enough witness support.

Pros:

There are plenty of positive things that come from the ability to edit posts after 7-days. For instance, if you catch a spelling or grammatical mistake a week down the road, you will now be able to fix it (instead of looking like a doofus on the blockchain forever). If information about a particular event changes, or a new development occurs, you will now be able to edit this information into an article.

Cons:

There is one implication I see from this change. Scenario: An evil-user creates a nice post which earns a lot of upvotes & support. 7 days goes by and the evil-user takes the rewards. Now the evil-user has a post (with lots of upvotes) they can edit into whatever they'd like. They can post immoral, illegal content and it will essentially make those who upvoted the original content look like terrible people for supporting such a thing.

Regardless of the Pros & Cons, it seems like STEEM 19.10 is coming just around the corner! What do you think of the pending updates to the STEEM blockchain?
