Discuss - Designing blockchain based democracy election voting system

in #blockchain6 years ago (edited)

I think one of the coolest example of p ≠ np is the hash function - the heart of blockchain. And one of the fact I love about Steemit and other blockchain based curation platform, is how they can automate the sorting of good online content. On the other hand there exist a political world where people make accusation of unfair and rigged election. On top of that even if election is fair people hardly have a say in decisions of the representatives they elect. And as if that is not enough, whether you liked the performance of the candidate you elected is diminished in next election yet again by the popular political spectrum bias. That is to say even if any candidate does perform mediocre you may still vote for him/her because s/he was from your region, religion, or s/he was a conservative , liberal , etc etc. I think putting the entire democratic system on a decentralized blockchain can be an answer to solving this political dilemma.

In US they accused 2016 elections being rigged and in India they accused that offline EVMs were hacked. But imagine if you had a system where your voter ID + your finger print + retina scan + candidate of your choice generated a unique hash. You then send this hash as a transaction to the blockchain which confirms all the votes in a decentralized roster. So you have now established a secure way to vote, no rigging , no cheating , no way to fake the counts.

Nonetheless, what next? How can we make it different from a usual fair election in any democracy? Well pretty simple pay small incentives to people who voted for candidate who perform well. Performance judgement can be divided into two - public opinion of the performance and actual progress metrics of the country like gdp growth , HDI etc. So if your candidates performs well the system generates new coins and distribute it to the voters of performers. This will create a pressure on the candidate to perform, plus citizens will become curators who vote for those who are best for the nation. Kind of, totally eradicating political biases. Sort of a real life political steem revolution.

What do you think?

  1. Would it work ? Or why it won't?
  2. What will be the pitfalls?
  3. How would you make the design better ?
