My Life's Journey - Continuing On The Rebuilding Of My House Which Was Ravaged By War 23 Years Ago. Bathroom Renovations Part 1.

If you have read my last post you know my basketball season in Italy has ended about 2 weeks ago by losing 3-2 in the semi-finals playoff series. I was not happy for losing in semi-finals, but I was happy I was going home to tell you the truth. If that makes any sense to you. I had 3 long seasons before this one and I would usually come a month and a half later than this year.

So I was not happy for losing but happy to of going home earlier this year. I was happy of course to see my family and friends. But, what I was even more excited about resuming the work on my house which was ravaged by war about 23 years ago. As I said in previous posts about rebuilding our house my father just did not have the funds to rebuild it himself. He was more worried about 3 of his children having food on the table every day then making the house look pretty for us. We had a bed to sleep on and a warm house and it was all we needed really. My parents accomplished that goal with flying colors. We had a great childhood besides the war part.

But it has been long enough after the war and I am blessed enough to save some money from my basketball season to start rebuilding this house to the former shine and "glory." We started last summer by rebuilding our hallway and up the stairs walls which were basically devastated. The part, because it was devastated, was because we were leaking water from the balconies upstairs. We repaired the balconies which were leaking water and repaired the walls in the hallway and up the stairs to the second floor. I am not going to tell you too much about it in this post as I will post links to the previous posts I posted about it. I have one more post to write about how the rebuilding finished last summer to show you the "end" result. The result is in "" because we did finish it, but only to see how much more work we have to do. Anway you can catch with the previous post with the links below.

Plans For This Year

So what is the plan for this year? What is another rebuilding adventure my father and I will go on this year? Because for me this is far more than just rebuilding our house. This is rebuilding of my fathers and my heart after the war as well. We have a beautiful big house and it deserves to be brought back to the former shine. We shared many amazing memories in this house, and it has given us so much in life. With every brick, the lair of new fresh paint, we are bringing this memory packed house back to life. And, while doing it we are filling our hearts with that warm and fuzzy feeling around the chest area.

This year we decided to take on a big project of rebuilding our about 40-year-old little bathroom and renovate it completely. What does that mean really? It means we have to tear it down completely. What does that mean? It means we have to tear down old tiles, the old bathtub, refurbish the door and use the drill to dig out the old led plumbing and replace it with new plastic plumbing.

The Old Bathroom

This is the old beat up door which leads into our bathroom. We are going to keep it as it is but we are going it completely refurbish it and repaint it. As the wood and the frame is good quality. It just needs some touch and new paint to make it look like basically new doors.

We will also have to dig out led plumbing because it would freeze in winter time. And, we would be without water until we figure out how to unfreeze them. Sometimes it would just not be possible at all. The other reason we decided to replace them is that in some parts got squeezed and even shaving your beard off could clog it up. The whole bathroom would overflow after. So basically all of the old plumbing had to go. My advice for anyone renovating their house is to do it the right way or do not do it all. Because if you skip some parts they will come to haunt you later. That is why we had to change everything. I mean everything. Just like in life when you need to make a change. You have to start from the roots of the problem and build a strong foundation of a new you from the bottom up.

You can also see we had a big old bathtub which basically took half of the space of our bathroom. We will have to find the way to break into pieces and replace it with the shower cabin. As trying to take it out in one piece would be a living nightmare. Plus not to mention that bathtub weighs about 200kg(440lbs).

The old tiles, sink, and the beat-up mirror will have to retire as well. They have served us for about 40 years, but like Tim Duncan, they will have to retire. It is time to go and let the young and new take their place. They will forever be in our Hall Of Fame. lol

The same goes for the toilet and its plumbing. It will all be replaced and moved to a different place because there was just not enough space in there. Removing the huge bathtub will give us a lot of space to do so.

You can see how water has destroyed our old tiles in the picture above. They were almost falling apart from the wall by themselves. The old window will also be taken down and refurbished. I think I have given you a lot of details on what we need to do, but I will keep some things a secret and share it as we go along. We have a lot of work ahead of us and I am excited to start working on it. This will be like you are watching one of those house renovations on TV shows. My father and me being your hosts. lol

Final Thoughts

As I have told you before in my posts about my house renovations this is way more for me than just renovating our house. This is also about rebuilding and restoring our hearts and creating some amazing memories with my father as we go along. Every time I look at parts we worked on in our house the walls will speak to me. I will look at those walls and they will speak to me a long time after my father parts this world. They will tell a story of a father and son working side by side rebuilding their house with their own two bare hands. Every time I walk by those walls they will be telling me a story. A story of a father and a son...

In my next post, I will be writing about how the teardown went, and I will try to take you on the journey of rebuilding our house and hearts with us.

Thank you all for reading, have an amazing day, much love,

We had a great childhood besides the war part.

I know what you mean. But this is a very odd sentence! [grin]

Everything happens for the reason, my friend. Not saying war is a good thing by any means. I don't wish it on anyone ever. But, without it, I would not be the person I am today. I would be someone else. And, I like who I have become as a person. :)

Plus I would not get this chance of rebuilding our house with my own two bear hands if there was no war. So in everything bad, there is something good and vice versa. What am I am preaching to that to you? You know that better than anyone my amazing friend. :)

Yes, I know. But it just struck me as odd ... this pairing of innocence, danger and chaos.

"Yes, I had a great childhood ... except for ... you know ... that war thing." (That war part wasn't so hot.)

Well, I am a bit of an odd guy so odd things wander into my posts. lol I hope you are having an amazing day my amazing friend? How is your charming voice I hear on TOTL husband treating you these days? lol

yes.... you're so right. and you worded it so perfectly @enchantedspirit.

you are too funny

I am sure that the bathroom will look amazing you finish it, I have no doubt about your family's skills and taste 💚

Well, not sure about our taste? I think we messed up a little bit with tiles choosing. This is where me finding a girlfriend would come in handy. lolol

So it will turn up as it turns up. But I am tired of going to a bathroom in a bar near my house. lol Hopefully, we will be finished soon. :P

What a big project!

It is no doubt. But, I enjoy doing it. We are doing something with our own two bare hands. Taking a shower in there will be twice as good. hehe :)

Because for me this is far more than just rebuilding our house. This is rebuilding of my fathers and my heart after the war as well. We have a beautiful big house and it deserves to be brought back to the former shine.

and.... this....

What could I possibly say? Those words say it all. That's your heart. and it's beautiful.
