The Garden

If you have ever been to Bridgeport,TX you know that the town isn't known for its eccentricity or charm (well we're working on the charm part). Bridgeport, was an old coal mining town which then turned its attention to making bricks after the mines became less profitable. When the brick plant closed Bridgeport lost most of its identity and like many towns in the Midwest it began to die. When we moved here it was to be close to family, but being the children of gardeners, and teachers/echo activists we couldn't stand the "America lawn" that wastes thousands add gives back nothing in return.

The yard was a biological mess when we found it. Years of attempts at sowing Saint Augustine and fighting weeds with herbicides had left the ground depleted of what it needed to grow any sort of plant, even the grass that the former owners tried so hard to cultivate. But with 3 years of just letting nature do what it wanted, with a little help from us by not bagging and throwing away our leaves. The Ground is now restored to health and though we would never claim the organic label we can now be sure that our produce is at least safe to eat. This year we should be able to harvest, everything from Peaches to watermelon this year and have already enjoyed quite a few vegetables.

Though we get our fair share of looks from those going down the road, and admittedly quite a few complaints. But, for me and mine we are happy with the praise we receive from the bees and the butterflies. We will be content in the choir of toads and frogs that have found refuge in our pond and food enough in the underbrush.

Big Plans

So as some of my readers know I'm working on starting a Game Studio and Digital Arts Educational Center (needs a better name) here in Bridgeport. Though it will be years till I get it to where I want it. There is no reason to not start building the future. So for your viewing torment feast your eyes on the future home of Vague Entertainment

We've never used this "garage" as a place to hide our cars and has become a storage place for the broken, unwanted and forgotten stuff that households tend to accumulate over the years. If you think the front looks a little rough, the back is worse.

In the end I'm hoping to have a completely functioning Studio that could be used for classes as well as a place for me to "get away" from the distractions of the house. I would love to use solar panels, or some other renewable source of electricity but as you can see, there isn't much in the way of sun getting through the canopy. And given what will need to be powered I doubt that is within the budget.

I'll be chronicling the progress here on STEEM as always. @kflanagin should be back to blogging once school is out so check out her blog for updates on the garden (hopefully)

Like, follow, etc. Thanks for reading.

Progress happens a little at a time, sometimes, doesn't it? :) I think it's admirable that you have restored the soil's health to a point where you can grow vegetables :D

And that dream of the studio is amazing :D I hope it will become reality, for sure ! One step at a time, as they say :)
