Monday Musings: EOS, Upvote Bots, and SBI Oh My!

in #blog6 years ago (edited)

It is a beautiful Monday out and instead of being at work, I wish I was home with my wife and dog.

We got back yesterday from a weekend trip to watch my nieces play softball in Ohio.

Sitting in the hot sun watching five games in one day gave me lots of time to think about what I wanted to write today.

A couple of weeks ago, I was talking on a Discord channel saying that I didn't understand what people were looking for these days on Steemit.

I have been lucky enough to get a @curie recognition once or twice, but lately things have been pretty sparse. It was brought up by another user that perhaps I was being overlooked because my rewards were too high due to me using upvote bots.

I checked with another user I know who worked with @curie and they verified that yes, that was probably the case. They explained that @curie usually looks to reward accounts with smaller payouts that aren't getting the recognition they deserve.

I shared this information with @slobberchops and he expressed his desire to stop using upvote bots as well. It was something he had been contemplating even before I talked to him. He has since pledged to stop using bots now that his reputation has reached 55.

Likewise @daan has made a similar pledge to stop for a month. I already stopped using them a week or so ago, but now I am going to make it official that I am giving them up for the time being.

I have no problem with people that use them and I can see the benefit. I just want to move back to a more organic experience. As @daan mentioned in one of his posts. I think the increased rewards were making me hold my content in higher regard that it really deserved to be. I look forward to moving forward in this exercise of humility.

That being said, I do still support some small bot initiatives. @steembasicincome (SBI) is one of those.

I was introduced to SBI via @steevc. I have also been delegated some shares in the program by @daan and @slobberchops.

The basic idea is you send 1 STEEM to SBI with the name of a user you want to receive a share in the memo line. They will then use a formula to determine an upvote amount that the user will always get whenever they post something.

The more shares they receive, the higher the upvote. Additionally, when you send someone a share, you also receive a share. I have been doing my best to sponsor some of the users whose content I really enjoy whenever I have the extra STEEM.

Today I was able to sponsor back @daan and @steevc.

SBI is a great way to support those users that you think deserve it and whose content you continuously enjoy.

EOS is Live

Finally, in case you hadn't heard, the EOS main net is live and voting for Block Producers has started. @greymass has created an awesome tool to submit your votes. They have a great post about it here. The instructions are very well written and the tool they have created is really simple to use.

If you haven't gotten your votes in yet for BP, I encourage you to do so. The voting tool by @greymass is highly regarded as a safe and easy way to do so.

Thanks for stopping in! How do you feel about BidBots/UpvoteBots? Have you heard of SBI? Did you get your BP votes in?

Thanks for the heads up on EOS, had completely forgotten to submit my vote. Glad you're also on board with #nobidbots

Another thing I forgot to mention to both you and @slobberchops

Thank you! I appreciate it!

Truly @daan, I wish you hadn't, but thanks so much.

Well, we both get something out of it. I'll support some other people next time ;-)

I contemplated and did research on the bots the first month or so I was on Steemit. I decided then not to use them and have stuck to that. I get it, and I have friends that use them, but I never have. I really have no input on the matter one way or the other.

Thanks for a considered post. I just wish my dog were in the same time zone. I'll be visiting him at Summer Camp in about a month. Looking forward to it.

Wow, that has to be rough. I miss my dog after about two days when we have to leave her. I agree with you, I am not against the bots, just a choice I am making moving forward.

There is nothing worse than being at work longing to be at home with the dogs and wife. I am ending a 12 day vacation tomorrow and I am dreading it...lol

I made the same decision recently about bots. I definitely do not judge anyone who goes that route, but, like you, I wanted a more organic experience. I don't thing I was utilizing them efficiently anyway and I was probably losing money.

I still participate in SBI and think it is an awesome initiative. There were times that SBI was the only vote I was getting and it kept me going seeing a little bit of a vote, even if it wasn't organic. Thanks for sharing your musings.

Found you by #steemusa

No problem! Thanks for the comment! I totally agree with you. I think I threw away a ton of SBD making dumb bids or poor choices on which bot to use. I should have just held onto it and powered it up. Wow! 12 weeks! Hopefully you got to go somewhere fun! I'd be dragging heading back to work after that...

lol I wish!!! it was 12 days. We went down to Panama City Beach, FL

Right, that was typo by me :) I don't know what I was thinking. :) Very cool. I am going to check out your snorkeling video in a bit.

Congratulations! This post has been chosen as one of the daily Whistle Stops for The STEEM Engine!

You can see your post's place along the track here: The Daily Whistle Stops, Issue #165 (6/14/18)

The STEEM Engine is an initiative dedicated to promoting meaningful engagement across Steemit. Find out more about us and join us today.

Got myself a little EOS before the token exchange happened, but like most other coins, its down today. Wish I could get more.

Now is a great time to buy it! Buy the dip! Buy the dip! It should turn around as soon as people get their votes in. Unfortunately they are all tied to whatever BTC is doing too, so once that trends back up, the other ones will all probably follow.

You just received a Tier 0 upvote! Looking for bigger rewards? Click here and learn how to get them or visit us on Discord

Where were you in OH? I am from Dayton originally and was in town this past weekend.

Anyways, I have been active a few weeks and know that bid bots are not in my current future as I do not have any extra $ around to invest. I like the idea of really working for what you get and I know there is a lot of people out there searching the less viewed items to curate as I will do when I have enough vested.

Lastly, I see something about camp on there...what do you do at camp? I currently work at one in Michigan and love it.
See ya later,

We were in Pickerington for a tournament. My relatives live in Columbus though. My wife and I like to camp at a lot of the State parks in Michigan. Lots of beautiful things to see. Thanks for your comment!

Love Columbus! Will see you around Steem!

I've just started using bots to get some votes because my first few hundred posts hardly got a vote at all. It's hard to find content that I like here on steemit, seems to be just stuff.

If you haven't gotten on Discord yet, that is a great place to meet people who you might share some interests with. There is too much content on Steemit these days to try to sift through all of it using the search tool or just by looking at your feed. It can be hard at first, I don't deny that. Just try to keep meeting people, commenting on posts you do enjoy and build those relationships. The rewards will come in time.

OK, thanks, am on discord now...

Awesome, there are great communities based on where you live that you might want to look into joining. TheSteemengine is also a great server to join.

Ok, thanks, I'll see what's there

Nice. I know I get some sbi. I think it was from mariannewest; not too sure. But it sure helps my post along.

I don't even know how eos operates. Is it a platform like steemit or is it something else. Well I am a noob, bite me.

EOS is more of an operating system and apps will run on top of it. It has a lot of potential! We are all a little new to tall of this. No worries!

I stop using voting bots a month ago (they are useless sometimes) since I discover some discord communities which I can get more votes and most of all, it's not just the votes but What I appreciate the most is the teamwork, new steemit circle of friends and the new learnings.

And steem basic income (sbi) is also a wonderful thing.
Well done on the curied post. I was also curied once and it inspired me to continue to create quality content posts (if I'm not in a lazy mode 😀).

Have a nice day Bozz!

Thanks you too!
