Lunchbox Sandwiches: Banana, Ham, and Pepperoni

in #blog5 years ago (edited)

Parents often fall into the lunchbox trap. That is, they end up packing the same thing, over and over for weeks. It is mainly because, parents get into a routine and end up getting into a rut when it comes to preparing lunches. In fact, it's not just kid's who suffer but the parents too! No worries, these sandwich and wrap ideas will give families something different and delicious to look forward to, as well as affordable.

Banana and Nutella Sandwiches

Banana sandwiches are great, but paired with nutella, even better.

Ingredients:

  • 2 slices french bread, sliced about 1 inch in width
  • 2 tablespoons nutella
  • 1-2 banana's, peeled and sliced

source

Directions:

Simply spread the nutella on one side of each piece of bread. Place banana's on the bottom piece and top. Microwave for 10-15 seconds, just to melt a bit and place in a container.

Of course, bananas are not the only fruit that would be good on this sandwich. For some added flavor, use thin slices of mango, apples, or pear. This can also be turned into a creamy nutella and fruit wrap. This is not only delicious, it is a filling sandwich that will help anyone push through the remainder of a busy day.

Keep in mind, nutella does contain nuts. So be sure to check the school's policies before packing this treat.

Ham and Turkey Club Sandwich Wraps

The club sandwich is a classic, and makes for a great lunchbox food. Instead of just making a sandwich, try turning it into a yummy wrap, with some cream cheese and homemade honey mustard sauce.

Ingredients

  • 1 flour burrito wrap, any color
  • 3 pieces of lunch ham
  • 3 pieces of lunch turkey meat

source

(Instead of using lunch meat, use shredded turkey and ham, if on hand)

  • 2-3 slices cheddar cheese
  • 2 tablespoons cooked, broken bacon
  • 1/4 cup shredded lettuce
  • 2 tablespoons chopped tomatoes
  • 1 1/2 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon whipped cream cheese
Directions:
  1. Heat the burrito wrap for 10 seconds in the microwave. Lay flat on a clean cutting board and spread the cream cheese on the wrap.
  2. Then, place the cheese, ham, and turkey on the wrap. Heat another 10-20 seconds in the microwave.
  3. Set to the side and let cool for a few seconds while preparing the honey mustard. Simply combine the mustard and honey in a small bowl (add more of each if desired). Then place the lettuce, tomatoes, and bacon onto the meat and cheese. Drizzle with the honey mustard sauce.
  4. Roll the wrap from side to side, tightly, and cut in the middle.
For some added flare, wrap each half using a clean paper bag or newspaper page. Then place in a lunchbox or container. If desired, add some sliced avocado and onion to the sandwich for more taste.

Pepperoni and Ham Pizza Wrap and Sandwich

Kids and adults enjoy pizza. What better way to make one look forward to lunch than by packing a pizza wrap or sandwich (best yet, it's easy).

Ingredients:

  • 1-2 flour tortilla wraps or 2 one inch slices of Italian Bread
  • 9-12 slices of pepperoni
  • 2 thin slices of ham
  • 1-2 thin slices of mozzarella cheese (or 3 tablespoons of feta cheese)
  • 2 tablespoons tomato sauce (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon garlic salt (optional)

source

Directions for Sandwich:

Preheat broiler. Place the cheese, ham, pepperoni on the bottom piece of bread. Spread the sauce on top and place the top half of the bread onto the sauce, meat, and cheese. Butter the outside of each piece of bread and sprinkle some garlic salt on top. Heat under the broiler until the cheese is melted and the bread is slightly browned (1 1/2 to 2 minutes, no longer than 3). Cut in half or diagonally and pack.

Directions for Wrap:

Simply spread the sauce on the flour tortilla, then place the cheese, ham, and pepperoni on top. Heat in the microwave for 20-30 seconds. Pull out and let cool for a minute. Then roll, cut in half, and pack.

Both of these make wonderful surprises for any child's lunchbox. Like all recipes, they can be added to. Some additions could include, sausage, peppers, onion, sliced tomatoes, or olives.

Hopefully, these sandwich and wrap ideas will help keep lunch time a bit more interesting throughout the year. These are not only good for school or work but home as well.
