Education System in India - Government School Vs Private

in #blog6 years ago

The education system in India presents a thing that is obsolete but functional. The literacy rate in India is currently 75.06%, men have higher education rate of 82.14% and 65.46% for women. Unfortunately, India is one among the developing and developed countries that invest a percentage GDP. These days there is a considerable debate are roaming in media about Indian educational system. Scholars in many streams think that India couldn't produce world-class leaders because the education system has a lot of flaws. The main causes of poor quality in government schools are the quality of infrastructure in slum and rural areas.

The government manages 80% of schools in rural areas, and the government staff is not well paid and therefore aren't well qualified and are not willing to work hard. The government only spends 3% of its GDP on education which is very low when compared to other developed countries. Private schools are expensive and out of reach for the poor and ordinary people. If the schooling system does not enhance the areas the rich will become richer and poor will become poorer.

To give an example in a government school in Miyapur, Hyderabad has very few classrooms and facilities to students. Children sit on the floor; students don’t have necessary things like chairs and table to sit and write. Teachers in many government schools don’t speak English but prefer to communicate in local language Telugu, and later students face a lot of trouble when they enter into graduation level (like in Engineering colleges, where all the medium in English). Even at lunch time students have their lunch on the floor. Government is providing free food to students, and there is no fee for education in almost all areas, but when it comes to quality of education, it is not up to the mark.

In another example 10 km away from same school outskirts of Hyderabad there is Oakridge International School, a private school operating for rich people. Here students have world-class amenities which includes modern classrooms and medium of communication is only English and have an option to choose other foreign languages, a large cafeteria, swimming pool and expansive playgrounds in the total area of 20 acres. Parents are paying a higher fee which is between 10000 to 30000 USD per year depending on the class of the student.

These are the two extremes side of the Indian education system. Why government schools can't provide education in both international language and state language? I came from Telugu medium, and I know how terrible it is to push yourself to meet standards.

No government employees send their children to government schools but send them to government engineering colleges and government jobs. Some people think the quality is lacking in government schools because this is the first generation and parents don’t know much about international standards of emerging world and cannot question teachers like parents of private school students.

Wow, the discrepancies between the poor and the rich, in terms of availability and quality, seems absolutely staggering! It tells loudly to the world "who is supposedly to reign on this planet"...

I sure hope the Indian government will move forward with equitable education for all as the world is going to be greatly influenced by the people of India that will find themselves all over the world within generations.

Namaste :)

I always thought india had good education?

The problem is the PEOPLE not the Government, because very few(maybe you) vote for the Schools ,Colleges , Healthcare,Roads and other Infrastructure as mostly vote for caste ,Subsidy ,Loan waiver ,giving a separate state for a group of people ,and many freebies

Well said, But it is the responsibility of the very same peoples to ask for a better education system in place.

But Priority matters 😁

Nice post I like this post thanks for sharing this post upvoted

In my country the government schools don't get the funding
But colleges are a completely different story

bravoooo bravoooo merci a vous de @bakabou159704

The discrepancies between the rich and the poor was always evident in a country like India and the government policies are promoting more inequality in this regard. There was a episode in the serial "Crime Patrol" (which covers real stories of crime) in which a Mother residing in Mumbai committed suicide simply because she was not able to admit her son to a good school or a school of her own choice as they were of a poor background and the school was exclusively for rich kids. The Great social reformer Mr. Anil Sadgopal is working for numerous years to create equality in education system and also trying to make the education system student friendly. He has alleged that the government is not paying any attention to the fact how the rural students and the sons and daughters of peasants are struggle proper education and the government is siding with the corporate lobbyist. The Education Minister of our country should invite a person like Mr. Anil Sadgopal and frame our education policy as per his guidance and that will change this sombre picture.
