Money Does Rule: Spain Makes U-Turn on its Arms Halt, to Proceed with Sales to Saudi Arabia

It seemed like progress made when reports came in last week that Spain had cancelled a deal to Supply the Saudi Army with 400 Missiles owing to a bombardment in Yemen that has claimed numerous civilian lives including that of Children. That decision has apparently been overturned after a consideration of the weighty financial implications for such an action.

The decision caused a slight uproar among politicians and the media alike who voiced concerns over the impact of such a decision on the economy.

Immediately after her intentions became public, Spanish media reported on the Saudis’ alarmed reaction and the future of other Saudi-Spanish deals. Top of the list was a contract for five warships to be built by Navantia, a Spanish state-owned company. Cancelling that order would have cost €1.8 billion and left 6,000 workers unemployed . While there was no official statement by Saudi Arabia, Robles’s idea concerned other Spanish politicians. Susana Díaz , governor of Andalusia, demanded the government defend the jobs that might have been affected.

It is another sad scenario of Saudi Oil (blood) money doing the talking while directly buying Western nations conscience. This should actually have been predicted seeing as Sweden and Canada have also back tracked from confronting the Saudis and holding them accountable in the past.

It is quite clear what really rules the World in a sense, exerting influence wherever it sees fit – Cash. Unless the Saudi Billions somehow disappear, nations will continue to look the other way as the abuse continue.

Sort:

With the $110 billions deal they made with the US last yr.,even if everyone else makes no deals, will hardly make any difference...
Sooner or later,we all gonna make a living, while working on something that will kill us...

Money talks these days.

howdy this fine Friday night empress! wow ok that sucks. I thought with the report last week that perhaps some pressure could be put on the Saudis but I guess that's naive.
I wish they're dang wells would dry up or something.
but anyway, great report!

War is obviously good for business.
