Innovative and Integrative Massage and Bodywork Techniques

in #blog5 years ago (edited)

You might already be involved in a variety of modalities to heal yourself physically, mentally, and emotionally. Some people like yoga, some go for massages. Some people use acupuncture. Most people have their own way to unwind from everyday stress, especially with so many modalities to choose from. Today, more and more methods are becoming integrative, meaning, they're a combination of at least two or more modalities.

If you're looking for additional methods to unwind from your busy life or are searching for new ways to expand your already full list of favorite modalities, look no further. The list below should get you either started on the right path or keep you headed in the right direction. They're interesting, intriguing, innovative, and integrative.

Acrosage is a technique involving acrobatic movements, meditation, and massage. The massage therapist lies on the floor and the client is suspended upside down on the therapist's hands and feet. While the client is being guided using imagery and breathing techniques they experience a weightless, floating sensation and release all tension from their body.

Acu Yoga combines, as you can guess, acupressure and yoga techniques. Through a series of yoga poses that concentrate on activating certain acupressure points a person can find relief from such conditions as fatigue, high blood pressure, irritability, and excessive anger.

Myomassology is a massage which includes therapeutic modalities beyond Swedish massage and is comprised of a balance of mind, body, and spirit. The training in myomassology includes, of course, aspects of Swedish massage along with reflexology, lymphatic, cranial, modified, and face massage.

Neuromuscular Integrative Action What used to be known as Non-Impact Aerobics, then Neuromuscular Integrative Action, is now known as NIA or the NIA technique. This technique combines, dance, martial arts, and yoga. Its trainings are based on 52 principles: 13 principles each belonging to one of four colored belts. Students are also encouraged to take the class barefoot.

Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy This technique combines classic yoga moves with mind-body psychology. Through practitioner assisted yoga postures and open-ended communication between the client and therapist, the client is guided physically, emotionally, intellectually and spiritually. They learn to let go of trauma, old habits and personal beliefs, and gain new perspectives.

Reflexognosy If you've heard of reflexology this technique is close to that. It's basically steps beyond reflexology in that it includes the feet as well as the legs; facilitating the healing process through the application of appropriate pressure. It combines podiatry, biomechanics, osteopathic principles, and soft tissue management with joint activation for energy stimulation.

Yogassage is a combination of yoga and massage. The client completes a series of assisted yoga positions while receiving massage targeting specific muscle groups. The massages are meant to facilitate the deepening of postures and to assist in the release of chronic holding patterns.
