What makes you jump for joy more: anticipation or realization of a goal/event/project etc.? Or both in the same measure?

in #blog5 years ago

In anticipation of SteemFest3 period, which will probably be filled with posts about the event, I thought I should not write as much about Steem. There will be plenty of time to do it during Steem Fest, even though I'll do it from a distance and not being there.

I feel the answer to the question in the title is important for the way we are wired.

You don't necessarily have to answer by commenting. It's something that you should reflect on.

Here's what I came up with after I given some thought to this topic.

Let's make an analogy with sports.

Did it happen during a game of your favorite team which you watched with your friends, that some lived it to the fullest, the entire game, every minute of it, especially if the favorites play great?

But there's one, maybe more, who said let's wait until the end and see the score. Not that he wasn't interested in the game, it's just he was goal-oriented, and the goal is to win.

It's the simplest way to see anticipation versus realization.

On one side, one anticipates victory, but experiences every swings during the game. He is happy when the favorites score and lead, sad when the opponents score at their turn.

On the other side, the guy who wants realization may be happy when the favorites score, but in his head and possibly words says "let's not get carried away! let it be a victory at the end!". When the other side team scores, he still says "we need to be victorious at the end!".

Anticipation can cause a person to swing with emotions a lot. Being exciting on realization is what we maybe should focus on more.

But in reality there are rare cases when you find one without the other. Everyone has a different mix of excitement in anticipation and realization of things.

To be honest, I don't really know what ticks myself more of the two. That's funny, I thought it would be a much easier question to answer to.

Sort:

Implementing a project makes me happy, I won't jump.

LOL! That's a great point. You can break something if you jump. But if you're merely happy, you get the same effect without the risks, so to speak.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. We are all individuals and that's good. To answer your question in the headline, for me, it's realization of a goal or a project.

Yep, that's what I thought too, initially. But the more I thought of it, I realized I also get excited in anticipation of a finalized goal or project.
