10 most fun student cities (part 2)

in #blog5 years ago

Oxford, UK

The Kings Arms bar located in this city boasts the highest intellectual indicator among visitors per square meter. The reason for this is the neighborhood with the University of Oxford, the oldest English-speaking university in the world. The famous educational institution appeared in 1096, thanks in large part to the expulsion of foreign students from the French Sorbonne. His graduate lists include such names as Margaret Thatcher, Tony Blair and Oscar Wilde. The University of Oxford presented the world with more than 50 Nobel laureates and annually publishes many books and textbooks that enjoy unquestioned prestige throughout the world. The population of the town on the banks of the Thames, whose name translates as “bull ford”, consists of almost a quarter of the students. The atmosphere here helps to tune in the right way and think about creating something really meaningful. More than a hundred libraries and dozens of inspirational bars, such as The Eagle and Child, are at your disposal.

7. Melbourne, Australia

Australia’s second largest city owes its rapid development to the gold rush that has raged in Victoria. Adventurers, creative intelligentsia and simple workers flocked to the quiet bay of Port Phillip from all over the world. Because of what the city got such a special ethnic composition. In 2011, The Economist magazine called Melbourne the most comfortable city on the planet to live in, largely due to the number of educational institutions. Melbourne University is considered the best in Australia and one of the most prestigious in the world. About 40,000 students from more than 100 countries of the world study there. The complex of campuses, libraries, cafeteria and research laboratories forms a democratic and aristocratic campus where anyone, even the most sophisticated tourist, will want to stay.

8. Boston, United States

In the 17th century, the first English-language school and the first college, Harvard, were opened by puritan colonists in a small settlement on the east bank of the country. Since then, the glory of the “city of clever men” has been fixed for Boston. And it is not by chance that there are more than 100 educational institutions, including the world famous MIT and Boston University, the fourth in the country in size. The largest percentage of people with higher education live in the student city of the United States; there are a huge number of museums, libraries, and excellent bars, such as Beer Works and Good Life.

9. Utrecht, the Netherlands

In 1636, in a small settlement in the center of the country, the University was opened, the symbol of which was chosen to be the “Sun of Justice illuminating our path” (which suggests creating a law school first of all). In 1817, the institution receives the status of the Royal University, and the city is gradually flooded with heirs of wealthy Europeans. Now about 300 thousand people live in Utrecht, 10% of which are students. This is a quiet, slightly melancholic place, where during the day it is pleasant to stroll through the shady alleys and along the canals, and in the evening to look into the Zussen bar vibrating from student laughter and the stylish Lust cafe.

10. Guanajuato, Mexico

In the heart of Mexico is a breathtaking beauty of the city, declared in 1988 by UNESCO as the world heritage of mankind. Its name in translation from Indian language Purepecha means “the hilly kingdom of frogs”. The emblem of the University founded in 1732 is depicted as a symbol of fertility and hard work. 160 thousand people live in Guanajuato, and about a third of them are students. This explains why it is so quiet in the morning and so fun at night. Every Friday and Saturday there are live music concerts on the steps of the Juárez Theater and comedy scenes are played out. And in September, according to tradition, night student carnivals are held, which fill the winding streets of the colonial city with lights, laughter and tequila bottles.
