Will the United States invade Venezuela?

in #blog5 years ago

Currently in my country (Venezuela) there is a great political, social and economic crisis, in recent days an information trend has been marked that points to a military intervention of foreign forces to Venezuela to overthrow the "nicolas" regime, particularly I think that a military intervention may be the quickest way to get out of this government since the vast majority of the "people" who are against "nicolas" are not assassins or extremists who are willing to go out and kill and die to get him out of power, the most of the "people" who are against mature what they are willing to do is march a few kilometers and spend hours on social networks reading Pseudo news, sharing them and complaining about what happens in the country, if we analyze it from those characteristics it seems that we can last 6 more years in marches, "protests", dialogues and even have "nicolas" as president.

But the problem that I see, is the false expectations that circulate through the networks, it seems that most believe that an intervention is something quick and without setbacks, I realize that people do not know what they are asking or the consequences, what The most I have heard is of people talking about the invasion of the United States to Panama (as an example to follow) and although the circumstances and dimensions are different, even in the invasion of Panama I generate collateral damage and it was not as fast as some believe, I have heard and read in different social networks people say that with the military invasion in a few hours everything is under control and I wonder why people are so deluded?

Let's see some characteristics of the invasion of the United States to Panama in 1989 (it is important to note that the data will never be accurate. History in this type of events is always manipulated)

  • The United States had more than 30,000 citizens in Panama who were its priority (Noriega was already hostile to US citizens)
  • The United States already had 12,000 soldiers in Panama since they were in charge of the protection and administration of the Panama Canal
  • The invasion began on December 20, 1989 4 days later Noriega was endangered and took refuge in the Vatican embassy and then surrender to US forces on January 3, 1990
  • The military force used in the 2 to 1 rondo invasion in favor of the United States is estimated that Noriega's force was 12 thousand soldiers while the United States military force round the 26 thousand soldiers
  • Territorial area of Panama 75 420 km²
  • Population of Panama at the time of the invasion 3 million
  • According to the most conservative figures, 350 civilian Panamanians died, while others have figures of up to 3,000 civilian deaths.
  • At least 20 thousand people lost their homes as a result of the conflict and the bombings
42 days after the military invasion is concluded, it could be said that all the latent threats of the supporters of Noriega had been neutralized.
  • From then on, the operation to promote freedom that lasted more than 4 years and that had a US military presence for more than 1 year began.

It is important to know that during the invasions the armed forces of the country that is invaded have two options, to leave the weapons and surrender or fight the invader, that is why the armed forces of public order disappear, which leads to a large number of acts criminals including mass looting, seeing some characteristics of the invasion of the United States to Panana, what do you think of how would it be in Venezuela? I am going to place some characteristics of Venezuela so that we can see the great differences that exist.

  • Area of Venezuela 916,445 km²
  • Population 32 million
  • Military forces 290 thousand troops
  • Reserve and militia add almost 2 million (although we all know that this group is very ill prepared not to say that they are not prepared at all, particularly I believe that this is where most ideological people are and those are the ones who can form guerrillas)
  • Venezuela is the only country in Latin America that has a long-range ground-air defense system, apart from also having modern defense systems of short and medium range.
  • Venezuela has the most modern aerial fighter fleet in Latin America.
  • Great powers have an interest in the current government of Venezuela (Russia and China) because they have huge loans and agreements that benefit them.

It is evident that Venezuela does not represent a target as easy as Panama was, of course not with that I say that Venezuela can win in an invasion by the United States (the main power in the world), but what if all the people who say that the Americans already arrive is that the conflict will last for a few months and the collateral damage could easily pass to several thousand civilian deaths, another thing that must be taken into account and for which I do not believe that the military invasion will happen ( now), is that the losses for the United States would also be significant in the economic, political and human.

As I commented in the first paragraphs of this post, the vast majority of the Venezuelan opposition is not extremist and is not willing to kill and die but perhaps that is what has prevented us from becoming a Syrian since for countries like the United States or Russia is much easier to finance civil wars with arms and money (each supporting the side that defends its interests) than to plan and execute a military invasion.

False expectations can cause a resounding change to a feeling, in this case could happen to want an invasion then hate it and even be apart from a nationalist movement that will fight (and everything would worsen and spread even more)

I remain attentive in case some doubts arise that I can answer or some debate that arises.

I don’t agree to that. A total invasion can be a bloody strategy. Change are already being seen, let us wait how Venezuelan leaders stand for their country.
