New Year Resolutions

in #blog5 years ago (edited)

A new year is an exciting period in one's life!

For some it represents a brand new start and a chance to have fresh beginnings in various aspects of their lives. For others, it comes after a rocky period of life which had been filled with tumultuous circumstances, something they'd like to forget and move on from. So often-times, the beginning of another calendar year becomes the perfect way to start afresh.

Whatever the case may be, most people tend to be revved up when the new year arrives.
There are different kinds of celebrations, many gatherings and vacations are planned, and a lot of festivities happen around this time.

Also, at the start of the new year, many people have made it a habit to make a New Year Resolution - which most likely involves creating a list of things that they intend to do and ideas they want to execute as the days and months of the new year pass by.

Although I don’t make resolutions every year, I have made 1 or 2 resolutions every now and then, some might have been silly while some have been quite helpful.
I’ve found making resolutions to be a good activity where we get to challenge ourselves and see what the end results will be - whether we'll be able to finish them or not.

However, an irrefutable aspect of these resolutions is that more often than not, they become impossible to achieve given the various factors and happenings in our day-to-day lives which inadvertently affect the progress of our resolutions.
When we are limited in time and resources, it is most likely that our dedication and focus towards these resolutions takes a back-seat. For example - Have you noticed the influx of new gym members during the first few weeks of January, and then the numbers again gradually begin to decrease.

To avoid this, it is necessary to have the correct resolutions!

What is the right kind of resolution?

It should be realistic, achievable and have specific goals and targets.
The fact that our resolutions are something that can be accomplished will make it easier for us to complete them.
If we set ourselves up for failure, we’re most likely to fail.

My resolutions have ranged all the way from losing weight, hitting the gym, travelling to a new destination and giving up food items like potato chips and other junk food.

It's good to make at least one resolution, even if it is for fun!
