Alinsky : Rules for radicals. A misunderstood Tool... Part 2. The 13 rules.

in #blog6 years ago (edited)

While Alinsky talked in a very 'no bullshit' manner, he _did not advocate violence - EVER , in his books or interviews (that I have come across).
I find no reference of him ever advocating any violence.

(Part 1 of this dissection here, if you would like to read it first.).

He DOES denounce violence...

“parts of the far left who have gone so far in the political circle that they are now all but indistinguishable from the extreme right.”

Asked about recent revolutionary violence, in the late 60's/70's, he writes,

“we are dealing with people who are merely hiding psychosis behind a political mask.”

....Well done antifa-rt!

As a far left supporter.. He would be squirming in his grave at these people, and their childish antics.

I for one, am very happy he is not around as a political opponent today, supporting the left..

We just have the DNC and deepstate to contend with!

The more I look into him, the more I see him as a real heavyweight, and hardcore - and was totally unlike the wisps of smokey insanity we have today, in leftist politics.

Having watched a couple of you tube video interviews with him, I can honestly say that in my perception - if I had met him in bar one day - I would have probably liked the man. (not his politics!)
....He wasn't boring.
I will also say that I find myself having great respect for him. Worth of respect, and a deadly political opponent. Of that I'm sure..
(I have zero respect, for close to nearly every politician, in today's world, by comparison)

Anyway...

These are the '13' rules in the book..
Probably the most talked about pages...The bullet points, if you will.

Let's have a look at them and how we can use them against the marxists..

The non italic between each rule, are just my own take on it.(These 13 rules could be 13 posts all by themselves).
I'm trying to point a direction of thought - and it's not to say this is the way to interpret them.
Just a personal, vague outline of thought..

1. “Power is not only what you have, but what the enemy thinks you have.”

Power is derived from 2 main sources – money and people. “Have-Nots” must build power from flesh and blood.

This is not strictly true, as we also have some power to.
But telling the truth about the growing movement, and the altering of the mood - and the shift away from the socialist spin, and by pointing out the diminishing left's influence, is an attack that will cause mental pressure.
And pressure causes mistakes..
Intellectually, we have all the power. Use it to increase the pressure at every opportunity. The power of the argument is the threat of what we have backing us up..

2. “Never go outside the expertise of your people.”

It results in confusion, fear and retreat. Feeling secure adds to the backbone of anyone.

For now, this is closely connected to the first rule. The expertise of our people is logic, reason, and common sense.
It is easy to stay within our expertise. Getting triggered is going outside our area of expertise.

3. “Whenever possible, go outside the expertise of the enemy.”

Look for ways to increase insecurity, anxiety and uncertainty.

This is the easy one. This is shooting fish in a barrel.
Logic, common sense and sense of humor. Never forget laughter as a weapon.
All of these with have them melting down and looking for a therapist on their phones, while ordering a double latte decaffe at starbucks..

4. “Make the enemy live up to its own book of rules.”

If the rule is that every letter gets a reply, send 30,000 letters. You can kill them with this because no one can possibly obey all of their own rules.

Again, fish in barrel. The list is endless of how to hold them to their own rules of hypocrisy.
Get them calling a therapist!

5. “Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon.”

There is no defense. It’s irrational. It’s infuriating. It also works as a key pressure point to force the enemy into concessions.

Sense of humor seems to be absent in the left, and is a very effective weapon.

6. “A good tactic is one your people enjoy.”

They’ll keep doing it without urging and come back to do more. They’re doing their thing, and will even suggest better ones.

I don't know about you, but I DO enjoy spreading truths and laughing at the mentally ill. (is that politically correct? oh well). Enjoying the fight is not essential, but definitely preferable.
Enjoying your work generally makes you better at it!

7. “A tactic that drags on too long becomes a drag.”

Don’t become old news.

On social media, this isn't as relevant because of the amount of new targets, but keep 'em guessing at all times, as to how the next attack with present itself to them...Change the angles if on one target, so they are always unsure about your approach.

8. “Keep the pressure on. Never let up.”

Keep trying new things to keep the opposition off balance. As the opposition masters one approach, hit them from the flank with something new.

Annoy, irritate, trigger...and don't let up. Expose the weakness of the target to their acolytes at every opportunity. Show them up for who and what they are. Be merciless. Laugh.
The moral argument must always be on your side.

9.

“The threat is usually more terrifying than the thing itself.”
Imagination and ego can dream up many more consequences than any activist.

Intellect and logic is the threat, and it does terrify them. Both the threat when using it, and the thought of the continued use of it _ in the presence of their peers_ scares the hell out of them.
Ego deflation through logical argument scares the hell out of them. Narcissists hate to be seen as a failure to their peers.

10. "The major premise for tactics is the development of operations that will maintain a constant pressure upon the opposition."

It is this unceasing pressure that results in the reactions from the opposition that are essential for the success of the campaign.

Keep attacking different subjects with the enemy. Don't let them comfortable in one area of any specific topic. Make yourself present, and seen as much as possible. Be the thorn.

11. “If you push a negative hard enough, it will push through and become a positive.”

Violence from the other side can win the public to your side because the public sympathizes with the underdog.

When destroying the enemy, try not to obliterate them - as you will be seen as 'the twat'. It is better if their peers see you as a nice person, and the funny guy, thus making any vitriol against you from the enemy - will only make your attacker look like the nasty, small one.

12. “The price of a successful attack is a constructive alternative.”

Never let the enemy score points because you’re caught without a solution to the problem.

Know your subject to some degree, depending on the level of conversation. Essential. Losing credibility after winning the argument because you have nothing to fill the vacuum, is a strategic error.

13. “Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.”

Cut off the support network and isolate the target from sympathy. Go after people and not institutions; people hurt faster than institutions.

On social media, this is fairly easy. Making yourself the funny person in a logical argument will isolate them from their peers, and will, eventually cause them to lose support from their followers. Make them look like the twat..

Sort:

Arguments could be won if they'd just put down their stupid whistles....Such little twats they are! Nice write up, any links for the Alinsky interviews?

Thx dood! ;)

...good to see your dyslexia is coming along nicely...
