Back to life, back to reality.... and letting off steam.

in #blog5 years ago (edited)

While I was writing my 'other stuff', this came into my head.
It seemed to fit here quite well.

My other writing is coming along quite nicely ( if somewhat slower than I would like).

Being new to this writing malarkey, I never realized there would be a difference by not writing with steemit posts in mind.
It is an entirely different experience. In a good way, I might add.
Much more.....'liberating'.
Nah, that's the wrong word.... but it's close enough. Freeing? Nah, not that neither....bugger. I'll get back to yer, on that one..

....Anyways....Enjoy my 'coffee break', story!

Back to life, back to reality.... and letting off steam.

She' given two years of her life to him and now, looking back at it , she wondered why she'd ever given him that long.
She remembered when they'd met, his promises, and silver tongue, tempting her in with his visions, desperately hoping to see what he saw.
And she'd tried. She really had.

He would talk incessantly about leaving this planet and exploring the universe together...
Always talking about the potential of them, she realized that was where he lived. In the future.
He'd constructed this world of his down to the minutest of details.
He had beguiled her with his words and the people around him. She wanted to see what he saw so badly.

It was the perfect utopia that he'd described to them, His worlds of velvet had lulled them all into his dream he had.
As the months passed by, she'd noticed that her friends never came around as much, but when she mentioned this to him, he just told her they were scared of what the future held.
"People are like that," he said "They don't have the vision to see what I see, and it scares them,"

Accepting that as the truth, she thought it was just them together then, going to the moon.
The moon never came though, no matter how much enthusiasm he put into it talking about it.

She felt a change in him.
It wasn't the dreaming, no- that never changed.... it was something else.
It was the way he snapped at her for asking where were these dreams, and when were they coming?
When were soon leaving this place...He'd promised that it wouldn't be long.
"You don't understand yet, but you will," He would say to her. Again, and again. And again, with impatience rising in his voice.
She really tried to see what he saw, just assuming that his wisdom was greater than her eyes would let her see. Bot soon she would, she told herself.

But two years later and nothing had changed.
A couple of things had, she thought sadly. Less and less people were now coming around to see them. The same faces week in and week out. The same faces looking up to him, still hanging onto his every word and waiting patiently for the dreams that he described to them.
They never materialized.
But still the faces looked up at him as he carried on saying the same things to them, in a million different possible ways.
She started to see that there was little difference from the very first day she'd met him.
Their very first conversation.
Nothing in fact.

The sage like pedestal that she'd placed him on, the one enthusiastically helped built by himself, made from words of no substance, had started to topple and eventually it came crashing down.
'The Wise sage' had been replaced with something else entirely.

'Aren't people supposed to change?' She'd thought to herself desperately looking for a reason for this......this.... stasis.
She'd changed, she knew that.
He seemed stuck in his world of the future. What she'd found exciting at first, was now just depressing...
He was stuck in a future that didn't exist.
You can change the place that you're in now, but how the hell can you escape from a world that you've made so real, one that only exists in your own head?

It was much easier to get out of a real life situation that you're stuck in now, she realized.

....As she took down the suitcases from the closet, and dusted them off, she knew she was moving on from this reality, to another.
And then something struck her, suddenly.
Not a 'slap in the face' suddenly, but more of a feeling of really seeing the sunrise in the morning, and appreciating it's awesome beauty, as if for the first time. That kind of 'suddenly'.

What she thought was going to be difficult, to leave him, turned out not to be so hard at all. She'd just needed to see that sunrise.
She felt a stirring in her stomach, and at first she thought it was the fear of moving on, but then she realized it was quite the opposite.
It was a feeling she remembered that she used to have with her all the time.
Somehow, over this last two years, it had that had morphed into something else. She never noticed the change until now.

She was feeling optimistic again.

Optimism for her life once more. Her life, and not someone else's dreams and fantasies.

Feeling very lighthearted for the first time in a long time, she packed now, with enthusiastic energy.

ooby.jpg

She found herself smiling to herself as she packed her bags, not really caring too much about how neatly they fitted.
She just wanted to be gone...

He came back during the time she was packing and stood there watching her, with a quiet disapproval on his face.
She used be aware of his disapproval, he used it, but now he could see she didn't care anymore.

He knew what was happening, and somehow, he knew that he could do nothing to stop it.
He'd lost this power over her somehow, and he felt confused.

As she looked back at him defiantly, but with sadness, for the first time in their relationship, he felt naked before her gaze.
The dreams that he'd shared with her, visions binding him to her, were no longer there. Vanished into the ether..

He knew why she was leaving him.
"Soon," he said, quietly. "Soon."

"You said that last year," She said, without any anger, and walked past him, bags in hand.

"You'll be nothing without me!" He shouted over his shoulder, refusing to look at her, in some desperate last attempt to stop her from walking out,
"Nothing!," He shouted, his usual calm and self controlled demeanor, escaping him.
He'd built his dreams around her, and without her to listen to them, riding on the same visions that he talked about everyday, his world would be empty.
His future , their potential future together, was crashing down around him.

She stopped, door open and laughed quietly, sadly.

"You just don't see it, do you?" She said.

He said nothing, hoping that she'd changed her mind, but knowing deep down that she hadn't...

"The only thing you ever need is adoration from people. Not people. Not me. Just someone to share your delusions with you, to make your fantasy more real."
"You're nothing without adoration from others, it just took me two years to see it".

"Where are you going?" He said, utterly deflated.

"Into the real world," She said, with a smile on her face. "You wouldn't understand,"

She walked away, smiling.
She left the keys hanging in the lock, she wouldn't be needing them anymore..

She didn't bother shutting the door behind her.
