When Amy Schumer and Netflix endorse something.....why the hell would Trump agree?

in #blog6 years ago

I have just read a little more about the Sesta - Fosta bill...

Mary Mazzio, director of the documentary film about online sex trafficking, I Am Jane Doe, is also in support, telling Politico that the amended House bill helps children and victims hold websites accountable and that critics are “clinging to a 1996 law” while dealing with a “21st-century problem.”

I know something of this subject, and after reading through the principles of the legislation, it is nothing short of ridiculous.

When are people going to get it?

PROHIBITION DOESN'T WORK, it just sends the criminals underground even more...

This is a massive screw up by Trump.
All it is, it seems to me.. is a knee jerk reaction to a massive problem. And fixes nothing.

If the left are so vehemently in support of it, anyone with a brain should be thinking.... WHY?
I'm of the opinion that the human trafficking problem is essentially a leftist problem.
It's about profit through control and abuse, so why wouldn't it be?
They seem perfect partners...

IF the left are so behind this bill, doesn't it tell you something....maybe?....think...

Just like the 'drugs war', this has just increased the profits, and has done_nothing_ to stop the human trafficking industry.
Politically expedient? Maybe.
After all, the people it will affect are not going to show up in Trumps voting demographic. They are not even voters, mostly, I would wager.

It doesn't change a thing about how stupid this legisaltion is, though...
Anything that stifles free speech in never to be applauded.

It is alleged (with a lot of truth I would imagine), that these sites such as Craigslist and backpage are conduits for human trafficking.
Conduits are not the problem, the trafficking is.

Draconian measures are never the answer, offering just a cosmetic solution that very rarely works.

Have a look at the drug laws and incarceration of 'dealers'..(the conduit)....

In the days leading up to the signing ceremony, Backpage, one of the most-cited offenders of facilitating online sex trafficking, was taken down by the FBI. The Washington Post reports that Yvonne Ambrose, whose daughter was killed after being prostituted on Backpage, stood next to Trump as he signed the bill.

“I’m signing this bill in your honor. You have endured what no person on Earth should ever have to endure,” Trump said “This is a great piece of legislation and it’s really going to make a difference.”

It will make a difference..but not the one you said you think ...unless that's not the intention at all, of course.

Anything that stifles freedoms is never to be applauded.
(like the left are doing so loudly, with this bill)

This has given me serious doubts about Trump and his intentions....(which I'm not happy about...)
And criminalized thousands of people just trying do a job.....

This is authoritarian in principle, and the opposite of freedom...

......Yvonne Ambrose, whose daughter was killed after being prostituted on Backpage, stood next to Trump as he signed the bill.

So by that rationale, Trump will be changing legislation again, in support of the poor dead hookers....?
No, didn't think so....

Very, very disappointing...
