First Camp of the Year
And probably the only campfire of the season...
Last weekend, we finally made it outside for a bit of fun in the sun -- some time to decompress away from screens and work and deadlines and the constant onslaught of incoming information. Feeling intensely refreshed after having a bit of time to just relax outside with @caitycat and the boys. Along with that, I think sleeping in the van actually fixed my neck a bit -- it's pretty comfy in there, if I'm to be perfectly honest.

It's definitely a bit disappointing though, because it's probably going to be the last campfire of the season before the fire-ban comes online (wildfires are already starting to pop up around the province). I don't imagine it's much further than a couple weeks away before they stop allowing campfires. No matter though -- kinda used to it by now.
Regardless -- the weekend outside was refreshing. And it was inspiring / motivating to get out to some climbing crags again and be awestruck by the scale and shape of some of these walls. While I didn't get any climbing in, I definitely fortified my resolve to continue my training. Back when I was first gettin' into the swing of some regular Steem blogging -- I was speaking a lot to the climbing training that I was doing. I'm happy to report that I've started again -- though, I don't know if I'll bring The Crushening series of blog-posts back. Though, I do have a desire to create a training journal -- I don't like the idea of sitting down all night and writing for 30~45 minutes each time.
I'm currently planning another climbing trip with the boys to go get stoked in Revelstoke -- I've heard there's some absoloutely incredible climbing out there. Gettin' in the right frame of mind to try hard, and doing some last minute training to try to get a bit stronger before spending 5 nights in the forest swingin' in our camping hammocks. Hoping that I can flesh out some @exhaust features to a point where I can blog about the trip and share some climbing performance metrics -- but we'll see.
Not only that -- but I need to spend a bit of time thinking about some photography (and practicing my drone piloting skills) so I can get some sick climbing footage. I'll cross the bridge about battery charging when I get there. We'll see what happens. For now -- I'm just trying to wrap my head around the various functionality of the drone, and try to not break it (again).
What's currently fresh in my mind, though, is the current status of my @exhaust project. I've had some discussions with a few people recently that has left me feeling very positive about the future potential of the project. Along with that -- the town that we camped in is a VERY cycling / mountain-biking / climbing / out-doorsy lifestyle oriented community. There was a bike racing event when we were there, and you could see all the people around town that were participating in the event, and just excited to build their community. If even 1% of this enthusiasm could be captured, it could be channeled into such a positive communal/societal force -- and it has me fired up to go on a bit of a code sprint over the next ~3 weeks to try to flesh out some project ideas. I wont spoil any of the details for now -- so sit tight.
That being said -- I've spoken about it a bit before, but @exhaust currently manages the XHST (steem-engine based) smart-contract token. I've recently figured out how to allow staking (powering up) of these tokens, and am starting to consider some ideas for how to leverage and distribute them to EXHAUST users. Hoping that the 2nd half of 2019 is gonna be exciting!
It was a really lovely weekend! So nice to just chill and chat about life and projects including Exhaust and the van and my metalsmithing. Cumberland is indeed such an inspiring little town!
No doubt! It was good to sort some things out that were rollin' around in our noggin's.

This is such a great post! Does the back of the van double as a couch, it all looks like a ripper of a good time! The drone shot is great, I looked at the pics before I read the words and couldn't work out what kind of friendly Ent was taking photos for you.
In terms of charging the drone, there are lots of portable rolleroutable solar options... not sure if they'd be able to provide enough juice... but maybe?

The van kinda-sorta doubles as a couch at the back, because of the relatively large back bumper. We were talking about getting a cushion w/ outdoor furniture fabric to put on top and make it more comfy.
Re: the charging -- I have plans to put a secondary battery inside to power the van/lighting/charging-needs -- but it's just not quite in the budget yet. After that, we'd be hooking it up to solar power so we don't have to rely on driving to charge the secondary battery.
Glad you're diggin' the van! As an FYI -- we were tossing around some potential ideas of renting it out if people wanted to cruise around the island. Perhaps rentals could be pair for by Steem (or XHST!?)....

It's a darn shame that they disallow campfires especially when most forest fires are started by lightening. Bu then again, I've ran accross backpackers that do not put out their fires. I, personally and with friends, ran to the lake multiple times with water bottles to put out a camp fire ring that was still really hot. When it steams with water, its not out. Good luck and safe travels!
Never surprises me how foolish some people can be with leaving fires unattended.

Ohhh boy and a bit lost here. Are coding features for @exhaust. In fact I have few questions about it because I would like to be part of it but I've visited the website and o couldn't find how to post through or maybe I'm just missing something out. By the way I love your post and I would like to see more and I will thank the person who restemeed your post so I can see it. I think I tried Gladstone beer in Oregon but will have to ask @pdxlove.

Currently, the site at https://xhaust.me is in alpha stage -- so there are numerous things that are currently imperfect and/or broken.
However -- if you're having troubles posting through, it's likely because the site is no longer optimized (functional) on mobile browsers (or even just smaller screens). Currently, you need to browse the site on a desktop web-browser (I think most screen sizes / resolutions will work). If you log in and browse to your dashboard -- you should see some options to log a new activity. Following the prompts will eventually get you to the point where you can create the post on Steem that's related to your exercise activity:
Hope this clears things up! Also -- I'm hoping to have a much improved version of the site running in the next 3~4 weeks. So please be patient :)
Regarding Gladstones -- you may have had some in Oregon. It's brewed on Vancouver Island, and there's a fair amount of Oregon (mostly Portland) beers up here -- so I wouldn't be surprised!

Oh cool -- that's good to know. There's a strong chance you could help out with some aspects of the project.
Let me get a few more things organized and create a new git for the beta version. After that, I do aim to have everything be open-source, and I'd fully be willing to accept PR's.
