Campervan Conversion - Ready For Fitout.

in #blog5 years ago

If you have been following my Van Conversion project, you would have seen the transformation. Two months have passed now and my MIV/BOV is ready for internal fitout. Electrics are laid, (plan on 12v only), lights are in, insulation and vapour barrier is complete, ceiling fitted, roof Vents installed, Side window fitted and all painted!

You can never have enough glue/bonding agent/sealant.
A nice bead of MASTIC.jpg
I used Insulation 'Stick-Pins', to secure the roof insulation (25mm Celotex insulation board). Great, secure and simple to use! Just expose the self adhesive 'sticky' pad and push onto the roof.
INSULATION PINS.jpg

Push the insulation onto the pins.INSULATION PIN CONSTRUCTION.jpg
Secure with the supplied washers.fixing the pins in place.jpg
Finally, just bend over the nail.bend over the nail.jpg
Then seal with aluminium foil tape.Everything gets a vapour barrier.jpg
The roof insulation took a complete day! Each board cut to size and some roof batons fitted straight to the steel - also with a bead of sealant to avoid any vibrational issues down the line!

Although not shown, the entire roof was then covered in double sided foil bubble wrap insulation too. Roof vents (two of them) marked out.Finalising the Roof.jpgFitting a 'Tongue & Groove' roof, wasn't as easy as it looked, however, the wiring and LED's were easy. One Touch LED.jpgI decided on 8, touch LED's, to avoid putting in any switches.... Just 'touch' the rim and they come on, GREAT, especially at 1 watt per light.wiring loom.jpgI put in two, low profile, roof vents for additional natural light and ventilation. With flyscreens too!

One coat of paint.roof finished.jpg
Two coats of paint later and apart from some minor 'trimmings' (around the roof vents), the roof was finished.Looking clean.jpgThe interior is now ready for some serious visual changes.

I can wait to see the next improvements. So far, an awesome job. You should be as cosy as a bug in a rug with all that insulation!

Thanks @cecicastor - I cannot wait to get on 'the open road' and do some miles.
STAY SAFE & WELL

howdy sir preppervetuk! man this thing is such a high quality job, it's amazing and it's staring to look gorgeous too! wonderful post sir, it's great to see you here!

Thanks man....

Looking good @preppervetuk! You really are covering all aspects

WOW!!!!!! 🍺

The touch activated lights in the ceiling is a brilliant idea. Note to self! It's coming along wonderfully. I like the floor too. I like also that you tell us exactly what you're using. You're doing such an in depth job too. WOW!!! Good thing I'm not there. When it's all done, I would thump you in the head and steal it!

Yeah, those lights are great.... A friend of mine is going to give me two 12v batteries too - (barter)!
As far as perfection? I'm just doing as best job as I can. So long as it's functional and does the job, It'll do for me.

i want that van. gimme.

I plan on a BEACH - HUT type of theme.... Should be good.

O,o cant wait to see the finished product!

That insulation will make the world of difference. You won't get condensation drips and you will be both warmer and cooler. We can sit in ours on a 35 plus day and feel cooler.

NICE
What type of heating system do you use? I am ultimately going to get a Diesel blown air system, but in the meanwhile i am looking for a portable gas option?

We are in Australia so haven't needed it. In the UK we lived in bigger trucks so used a wood burner. I've seen those in vans like yours. I quite like the idea of those marine style propane heaters but think they are pricey. Hubby recommended the diesel heaters too when we were building an expedition vehicle (stalled at the moment). In our van travels in Winter here we just use a hot water bottle and night and rug up.

I'd be scared of the gas option!! I tell you though best best thing for cooking is the metho stoves they use on boats. Better than gas!! Love ours. Want me to find the link?
