A Mildly Interesting Update
I unfollowed like 200-300 people today
I didn't even know who most of them were since I used to use this strange follow4follow service called steemengine.net when I first started.

What an absolute waste of time seeing as all the "followers" I gained probably don't check their feeds either.
Heck, most of them aren't even active anymore!
It also means my feed has been crippled with spam since I first started here so I've pretty much been avoiding it the whole time.
Half the people I was following didn't even post in english for crying out loud!
I only speak english...
A while ago, I started looking at my feed and unfollowing all the people posting in different languages. Eventually I started to see some posts in english; so I unfollowed some spammers, then I could finally see some authors that I actually know and like.
Fucking hell.
So I started the manual process of going through everyone I follow and unfollowing anyone I couldn't remember, keeping only the accounts that looked at least mildly interesting.
I was gonna review them all, one. by. one.. So much effort just to get mediocre content in my feed.
Anyway, it's done now, only following 100 accounts!
My feed is now almost as entertaining as all the codeine I'm on right now.
This is why each and every one of those resteem services MORONS pay money for is a scam. Imagine following one of those accounts. Every few seconds you get a new shit post. I think I followed one for about 30 minutes. Huge mistake. Those people pay money to show their work to dead accounts. Nobody with any SP follows that shit.

I tried one once, out of curiosity, it was money that would've been better spent as a generous donation to Jeff Bezos.
It claimed that I would be resteemed to 56,000 people. But it was four accounts with 14,000 each. What kind of fool is actually gonna think that they aren't exactly the same accounts!?
More importantly, like you said, which whale or curie curator is going to sit there pressing f5, reading 10sps! (Shitposts per second)

Nope! I still follow you :) I didn't unfollow anyone I have any kind of connection with
i am a very cynical being. sometimes it affects me, but for most of the time, it saves me from hoping into any of these steemit-services-related bullshits.
I was force fed it by one of those welcome to steemit articles that was actually just a referral frienzy, when you sign up they sneakily put you on their "curation trial" which basically means upvote all their posts... @steemengineteam gets like 2000 100% minnow votes every post.
You have every right to be cynical.
There is a reason why I follow 42 people and there are 487 followers on my account.
Out 487 I bet only 15 see my posts and the rest I don't think are even on steemit or probably don't follow my post. I want to make a request @ned that if possible permanently delete dead accounts or accounts that haven't been touched in a long while, this increases the efficiency of system and networking, it makes me understand who to follow and who is following me.
I've known some authors that have been off for 5 months, maybe more and came back.. then there are some large accounts that aren't active but still own huge amounts of steem.. I can't imagine an investor being too happy when his wallet gets deleted!
But with 25 rep accounts, no picture, only an introduction post, less than 15 steem, yeah sure. But I don't think @ned would want to slash the numbers as we approach a Million accounts :p
But I feel like that could give an incentive to make people to stay on the platform, of course we could have certain limits as to when your accounts are deleted like you mentioned above, I feel like there a lot of dead accounts that if cleaned would give us an idea of who is participating and who isn't, which makes engagement much better.
